Just picked up a Tru Cool oil cooler for the VE project

I just picked up a Tru Cool oil cooler for the VE project. It's 11"x11"x1.5" with 48 rows. I think that it will suffice in the oil cooling department. I'm trying to find some more flow characteristics on it online. And the best part was I got the oil cooler and line for...let's just say not too much. The idea is to probably run the Mocal oil pump with this setup. I'm still in the researching stage of this and I am reading and asking a boat load of questions.

I invite all comments and questions. I would like to hear some view points on if it is too big or small, etc. Stay tuned as there is more to come. This winter I'll look into a tranny cooler if necessary (and already have an oil cooler for that too if I need it).

Not really I don't think. If that doesn't work I can use the 11x3x1.5 one I have. The big one removes abouy 29,000 BTU's!

Re: Just picked up a Tru Cool oil cooler for the VE project

That is what I was looking for a couple months ago for my water to air cooler. I ended up with a smaller B&M unit. Where did you get yours?

You were looking for the big or small one? I got mine from my father's old race car setup. It has completly changed this year so I got both of the coolers and lines for them for FREE! I'll be posting pics of the new race car in the Off Topic section this weekend along with my new car. That will be three Nissans again, go figure.

Bigger the better for my purposes. I found a place online that sells them. THe unit you got is like $79 new where my much smaller B&m was the same price.

Brent, please tell me where you see those prices at. I am searching for a heat exchanger for my a/w setup as well. TIA

Re: Just picked up a Tru Cool oil cooler for the VE project

I just checked thier site and it looks like they sell Mocal coolers. Thats prob what I will go with since they look very decent for the money. Jacen's car (formerly Jim's) has had one in it for a few years now and it has performed flawlessly.

Re: Just picked up a Tru Cool oil cooler for the VE project

Damn I don't know how I missed them??? Wow they are cheap! I remember Steve saying that more rows = better. The 48 row is less then 1/2 the price of the 16 row Mocal I was looking at, hmmm what to do...

For the most part... more rows = less pressure drop. However, cooler/manufacturer design will affect this as well.

If anybody needs to know, I found a guy on ebay who is really nice. He quoted me $74.50 I think it was for the 11x11x1, plus $10 shipping. If there is enough interest, maybe Icould see if he would setup a GB for us with a bigger discount on any size cooler. LMK how many people would be interested, or just if you want his ebay name.

Yeah, let me email the guy and ask him if he is willing. even if he's not, $85 shipped is a pretty damn good deal.

Re: Just picked up a Tru Cool oil cooler for the VE project

I spoke with my father the other day and he told me that the Tru Cool oil coolers are made to not drop the oil pressure. He had 350ci motor w/ a remote oil filter, then from the filter to the cooler and back with no pressure drop. I repeat NO pressure drop. This motor spun 7000-7500 all night long with oil temps at 240 degrees. I cooler is a pretty decent quality. And also Tru cool is made by Long, or in other words Dana. As in Dana rear ends and the such, so needless to say they have been around for a while.

I will be at VIR North Course at the end of July (damn 90 degree days in jeans - YUCK!) with this setup on my soon-to-arrive VE. I'll let everyone know how is goes.
