Is it worth it to port a DE header for the VE?

I'm thinking about my future VE swap and I'm wondering if I can save some money by porting a DE header for use on the VE? I guess what I'm asking is if the only real difference between the aftermarket VE headers and the aftermarket DE headers is the port openings in the plate that bolts to the head? If the diameters, lengths and bends are similar enough, I'd think it'd be worth porting a DE header to save some money.

Re: Is it worth it to port a DE header for the VE?

most of the ve owners started off by porting their aftermarket de hearder to match the ve exhaust ports. The header for the de will work on the ve but you dont get the best flow from them some even say it chokes the ve... its best to get the fujisitsubo and HS GEN 6 that is coming out... i think the HS are 4-1 headers which would please the ve for sure.

Agreed. Even though you may save a few pennies porting the DE header, you'll be missing the extra horses that the VE header will give you.

Re: Is it worth it to port a DE header for the VE?

I don't think we're talking about pennies though. An SS autochrome header is significantly cheaper than the Fujitsubo or the HS6. My main reason for wanting to go that route is that I want to do stainless exhaust all the way, not to mention I really don't care to patronize HS at all. So if I can buy the SS, port it, then build my own secondary so that it's 4-1 while I'm putting in a VRS stainless exhaust I could have what I want and not spend a fortune on the header.

Re: Is it worth it to port a DE header for the VE?

This is my thought. Does anyone really know which way the header needs to move to help the shrouding issue? Is it the same direction for all the ports? If so then could you slot the header holes a little to solve the issue?

Here is what a header designed for the VE does, vs a DE header.

You get what you pay for.

Re: Is it worth it to port a DE header for the VE?

it is never worth porting. why? because anyone who is serious will get a header for the motor. on a side note, if anyone is saving for the header or has ordered one and waiting for it, it isnt worth porting even still because of the short amount of time the DE manifold will be on the motor.

Re: Is it worth it to port a DE header for the VE?

buy a FujitSubo header instead of porting the DE header

it's a higher quality product and worth more in the long run

Re: Is it worth it to port a DE header for the VE?

Is there much gain from running a VE stock manifold VS a fujitsubo header? The VE manifold looks pretty good in my eyes..

What DE header was used in that run and was it ported? Also what VE header was used?

Re: Is it worth it to port a DE header for the VE?

The header would need to move up to match up with the VE ports. I think the larger aftermarket DE headers may be about the same overall port size, but i'd have to measure it up to know for sure. I should have some stuff on the way and as soon as it comes in I'll be able to answer this all a lot better. =)
