ECU Question before i make my decision

Looking to buy a 98 sentra daily driver and since it has about 110k on the GA16 Im aready contemplating buying a VE. Id just like to know why u need the reprogrammed ECU, just for the redline bump? I really dont favor Jim Wolf Tech at all so Id much rather stay away from their products, even if it is just an ECU. I was wondering if I could go the same route with like a power FC in-car or something. Any help would be appreciated, thnx.

Re: ECU Question before i make my decision

why not JWT is good... well there one of the few that do the chipping for the ecu and i think andreas miko does too.

Re: ECU Question before i make my decision

In australia I believe a gtir powerfc AP engineering model would work, but you will probably need at least a DET afm for it to work properly. Not sure about USA cars with their ODB sh*t or whatever it is. You could just use an intercepter like a greddy emanage. Thats what i will be using

Re: ECU Question before i make my decision

Some people are using the Greddy E-Manage. I think this is what I am going to use when I do the swap. They have an Mss system that can be used to switch the cams over, and there is no need to ship the ECU back to JWT for a generic program every time you upgrade. Granted, I think JWT has tuned enough Nissans that they have there sh*t together, but I live in NJ, and some dyno's are closer then JWT.

Re: ECU Question before i make my decision

My opinions of JWT are mainly just product quality, the hot shot division isnt bad but i believe there's higher quality products out there. And to me, high quality = nice ass car, not *** fast for a couple weeks then bakk in the shop.

Thanks for ur input guys, the e-manage sounds like the way to go, Ill prolly have some questions for u later about the VVL solenoids since e-manage alters the cam shifts on VTEC cars, could it work for VVL without the rpm switches? dunno im new to the VVL thing so i probably seem like a retard but hey, gotta start somewhere. Thanks again, Ill be around, hopefully *** a sentra this weekend =P.

You can use the VTEC function on the e-manage without hte rpm switches.

You can, but both switch points will need to activated at once

The JWT ECU isn't junk. I don't know of any JWT products that people have a problems with them breaking. HotShot isn't a division of JWT either.

I've never messed with an E-manage. Plug and play is nice.

Re: ECU Question before i make my decision

JWT ECU = higher redline, no speed limiter. Also if your state does OBD2 tests, B14s would fail since the VE ECU is OBD1.
