electric pump water

I was searching and found some people used an electric pump water. How much hp does this free up? Should I consider changing this during my ve swap? I didnt see this in the FAQ will any universal unit work?

Re: electric pump water

misconception about this. it frres up about 6hp when the pump isnt on. the pump puts in excess of 6hp of parastatic drag on the alternator when it is on. same thing happens whenever the radiator fans are on. each fan pulls about 7hp when it is on. so both fans on and an electric pump running will be down about 20hp from a dyno with all of those off. so the advantage to an electric water pump is not for power unless you remove the alternator. the real advantage is keeping the engine temp regulated.

Re: electric pump water

I really find it hard to believe that a radiator fan could cause an alternator to put 7 more horsepower worth of load on a motor.

Here are two good threads about this - not really VE specific, but who am I to judge.

Re: electric pump water

the fans pull that much power. i have seen it a number of times on the dyno when the fans come on in the middle of the run.

Re: electric pump water

There's no such thing as a free lunch man... the power to turn the fans isn't free =)

Also, mellow out... you had 5 consecutive posts about this in less than 24 hours, everyone isn't on the forum 24/7 just to answer your questions.
If you need answers that fast you may not want to go the VVL route, there's still a lot of uncharted territory as far as these motors go and not a lot of people who really know them inside and out.

Reread your post and tell me that you don't deserve the donkey award? And is it really necessary to lash out at JustinP10 for asking you to mellow out? Just my $0.02 ~josh
