How to Install an Ammeter Gauge

Thought I would post this because when I did a search on this subject I found some people asking about it but no replys to those questions.

For those of you who dont know what an ammeter is here is a definition taken from Sunpro.

An Ammeter measures the amperage(volume of electricity) passing through it The goal of installing this meter is to reroute all the power through the ammeter that drains or charges the battery, except the power needed to operate the starter motor.

Getting Started:

What you need:
1) 40ft of Electrical lamp chord.
2) Soldering Iron
3) Solder
4) Wire Strippers\Cutters
5) Electrical Tape
6) Electrical Connectors

Precautions
1. Never Ground either of the connection posts on the ammeter.

2. Always use a wire size that is rated to handle an electrical load equal to or greater than the manufacturer's specified output of your alternator/generator.

3. Never connect the ammeter into the circuit between the battery and the starter/solenoid.

4. Good electrical connections are important for maintaining gauge accuracy and avoiding heat build up in the wiring.

This is how I installed my Ammeter In my NX2000 according to the directions Sunpro Included, they give you 8 different ways to install this gauge, you just have to find the correct diagram out of the 8 to install it right.

1. Dissconnect the two fuseable links that go to the battery.
2. Locate the two thick white wires that bolt to the alternator.
3. Cut both those wires in a spot where it will be easy to solder them.
4. Lamp chord comes in strands of two, one gets soldered to one of the thick white wires coming from the alternator the other gets soldered to the other white wire coming to the alternator. Then the other end of the lamp chord gets ran through the fire wall to the positive side of the ammeter, both strands are bolted down to the positive side.
5. Repeat for the negative side which gets a lamp chord ran from it to the other two thick white wires by the alternator.
6. See picture because I know that was confusing.
7. Make sure everything is taped up and secured.
8. Reconnect the fusebile links that go to the battery.
9. Start your car and enjoy!
