I attempted to do what you did and followed it how you did. I even used the male connector and female connector and all. I tried using 12 gauge wire and then used the strut tower bolt as the new ground. I took the car out for a spin and when I would come to a stop and push the clutch in, the rpm's would drop very low then bounce up and do that for a few seconds until it becomes steady around 800rpm's. I rewired the stock ground back and it was back to normal. Did I do something wrong? Maybe a bad grounding location?

Sound like a bad ground. You want to make sure you have metal contact... Not paint. If best, try some where on the block. That is usually the best spot. Let us know what happends.
Actually this I do not know. Check to see if your MAF is the same wire colors and series. I don't see why it should be different. But I would just check around to make sure.
Let me know if you would that way I can edit the orginal post and add this info.
Its a 3 wire. Two outer wires are orange, the middle one is white. I measured 10mv. I tapped into the white wire using one of those vampire piggy back connectors. I know they aren't the best. I put everything back together, and nicely tape everything up when I forgot to retest the wiring! Oh well.
I think my idle is a bit smoother now, but that of course could be the placebo affect lol
I just tried it on my 97 with the 1.6 (shame), and it seems to have a little better throttle response and acceleration, so I think it did something. I don't know about the milage, I'll check this week. Does anybody know where to hook up an aftermarket tach? I'm confused because this car seems to have a coil in the distributor and I'm not sure which wire is the negative coil wire that the tach directions say to hook to.
Better yet, is there a factory guage cluster with a tach that will hook up to this car? I've had some toyotas that the guages will swap right over.

well i did mine like 3 days ago , i haven't drove the car yet but the stand still revs sounds much cleaner..it even eliminated a hi low surge that i use to have ..seems to work so far.. when i drive it i will update.
