A note for those doing this:

A trick I used to avoid losing strands of wire when putting on the ring terminal is as follows:

This is a different wire, but should get the point across. (4 Gauge wire shown)

First, make sure the wire is trimmed at the top properly.

Then, measure the terminal you are crimping on.

Then cut 1/2 that distance with an exacto knife, being sure not to cut copper as best as possible. Slide that sucker off.

Then Cut the second half and slide it up the wire almost to the top.

Chase that sheathing back down the copper with the terminal.

Cut the sheathing from the base to the top, and peel it off

Slide the terminal the rest of the way, crimp, and sheathe.

I'm no electrician, but this sure made life easier for my battery relocation because wire stripper don't work on wire this big! I hope it helps you too.

Oh yah, and the KnuKoncepts Terminals require a ring terminal on them, so be sure to calculate that in when you're doing your ordering, and make damn sure you have a dremel or a grinder to take down the terminals to get them to fit on the circuit breakers...measure twice, grind once. I wrecked one by grinding the wrong side.

Also, the battery post terminals have more than one wire grounding spot. I'd reccommend using them all to ground. I installed mine in the trunk under the liner, making sure I took the paint off, and she seems to be running just great!

Thanks Chris!

for anyone who thinks this is not a good mod to do, if you have winter at all and don't want to wreck your engine from sucking up water from your cai, do what I do and swap em'! 5 mins later and it's ready for winter.

If you use heavy gauge wire, and do all your connections properly, you won't have any appreciable drop in voltage. What gauge wire did you use?

The longer the wire, the thicker gauge wire you need.

The gauge is usuall printed on the wire. So what happened in your case, you have a problem?

Please tell me you used a battery tie down Chriscar, that scares the crap out of me. The #1 reason why I don't want to relocate my battery to the trunk is if theres an accident. I don't want any chance that the battery will come loose and fly towards me.

Chris, I've been wanting to do this mod for awhile. While cruising the local Pic and Pull this morning I noticed that the BMW 325 series mount their battery in the trunk. They use a nice heavy cable with really good end fittings and a covered box on the firewall for distribution to the engine components.
I grabbed all the parts, including the cable to the starter for $5. I'm thinking it should fit on our cars as my B13 seems to be about the same size as the 325. Others may want to check this out as an option.

hey chris, I've been noticing a power drop in my car when my car stereo is on, and I think I attribute it to the piss poor job I did crimping...yet I did my best with my pliers...what did you use to crimp those bigass terminals on there?

I hate to admit it, but I used a combination of a BFH, vice grips, and a bench vice.

i did this a few days ago to privide effecient space in my engine bay. i already had 4 gauge running to my bass. just cut and soldered it to the terminal i took off the battery and same. grounded out to the strutt after paint was removed. did it for 0$ mainly because i already had the 4 gauge. i had the same idea with the stock battery brackets and housing, just self tapped them into the trunk. works great!!! for solder i used some 63-47 (best, no melting point, reffer ICP-A-610 doccument ) solder with a medium flux and a blowtorch, awesome setup! no problems this far.
