It should read 15 degree's on your crank pully, thats how you know its done right. The numbers should be steady and not bounce around while you're in timing mode too.

is all this necessary?
i have asked many nissan techs and they all say that its not and that just turning it up then 2 clicks back is 19 and thats good enough.

Don't worry about which direction (it's better to say clockwise/counter-clockwise when viewing distributor from driver's side), as long as you achieve the end result. I hear the direction varies between generations anyway.

Once again, as previously posted (this is not a comment on you), it needs to be repeated: Don't go by feel, make sure you use a timing light!

I have lost enough time/skin/blood trying to fix or replace things with inaddequate tools and equipment. It's better to just not try. (e.g. whacking away for two days to remove a ball joint on my RX-7 '*** I didn't rent a puller and my brother misplaced my 14mm socket, which caused me to round the pinch bolt)

hm, couldn't find a single mark on any of the pulleys with either a flashlight or timing light, no paint, no marks, no nothing on ANY of them.

anyway i moved it around a bit... didn't make a difference, i advanced it, everything happened like it was supposed to.

Is there any way to be sure I have set it to 'Timing Mode' ?

I'm probably going to adjust my timing this weekend and I'm thinking about adjusting the idle to. Should I do it before or after I have adjusted the timing? Can I do it on the same time or should I finish the other first?

Disconnecting battery for whole night, is this something I need to do immediately after adjusting. May I drive it home, since I'm not going to do this in my garage.

um fellas what is the best setting for your tps i realize that if you shift your tps the distrubutor moves together with it so is it better on 0.35v or 0.60v on closed trottle?

i've heard you have to drive the car for a while to allow the ecu to learn the new setting before you actually get the full affect of the advance. also did someone say something about having to unhook the battery over night immediately following this procedure without driving your car, is that correct?

I'm asking these questions because I'm planning on trying to do this on Saturday and I'm going to be running auto-x on sunday, will that work?
