VRS 3in downpipe problems

I just go my 3 inch downpipe from VRS and I have a few issues with it. First off it looks great and it looks like a quality piece. But when I go to bolt it up it wont fit. The holes didn't line up on the flange to the J pipe. So I had to go borrow a drill and widen all three holes. It was kinda a pain in the ass but I got it on there.

Then as I go to thread the nuts on I run into my second problem. One of the studs is too close to the down pipe and I dont see a way to get the last nut on there. If anyone has an idea I would appreciate it.

PS: I am happy with the downpipe I just wish that it didn't have these minor fitment problems.

either the dp flange is cocked and youve had a hell of a time putting it on . or you could slightly dent the dp to allow use of a socket or wrench . or take studs out of j-pipe as i did and use 15mm head bolts to tighten things up..

it is funny, you mentioning these problems. I ran into the same exact problems with my 3" HS downpipe. I used my dremel and widened the holes, and took the downpipe to an exhaust shop, where used a heat and dimple technique to give space for nuts to be installed.

People on the forum say to just hammer the piping, without heating it up. Believe me when I say that it is IMPOSSIBLE to make any kind of real dent (no less, dimple) because of the thickness of the piping. You'll need some sort of torch and a set of rams/dimples if you want to do this on your own.

Not even with an air hammer My brother ran into the same problem but I think used an open ended wrench.

Thanks for the input. I really dont want to have to take the downpipe back off again but it looks like I will have to because its leaking with only two nuts on there. I might just get a torch and hammer the hell out of it.

You would think that $250 would get you a peice that bolts up like it is supposed to

If ya haven't already, try these nuts from ATP:

I had these same issues, but these nuts take a smaller socket compared to the ones that I did have (14mm vs. 17mm). It worked great for me.

I have a JGY 3" downpipe.

Ok, sorry. What I meant was 17mm to 14mm sockets. My problem wasn't the actual nut itself, it was the clearance around the socket to tighten it.

I used a hammer to dimple my HS DP and can barely get the 14mm nut on the back side of the DP... the other two go on just fine with an open-end wrench.

You don't have to order those. If you have any exhaust manifold nuts laying around, i used those.
