Avenir Questions....

Ok so I have been researching Avenirs for like 100nights now and I have a few questions:

Do all Avenirs have to be modded to fit into our B13's? Some people have posted that they didnt have to modify the Oil pan while others have posted that they did have to.

Also the front motor mount...does it HAVE to be replaced or are there Avenir People out there that didnt have to replace theres?

My experience on my swap:

oil pan- needed to be cut, not much, I actually cut out more that I needed to.

front motor mount- as far as a I know you need an after market one.

Check out my page, http://sr20forum.com/showthread.php?t=157517 4th and 6th pic are of what you ask of.

So when you cut it you just welded another piece of metal on top of what you cut off??

It looks like it was a pain in the ass

No it was actually pretty simple. You cut straight across and then straight up to take a notch out. I filled in the open spaces with aluminum held on by rtv. I did it because you end up cutting into the pan (where if I can remember right it's not even oil there, it's actually in the tranny by the clutch), so there for you're not exposing what you to be hidden. Not as bad as it looks.

I didn't have to cut the oil pan when I put my W11 Avenir in. I did however have to make a custom front dogbone mount and notch the crossmember (didn't have the time or patience to clock turbo). Other than that, everything dropped in. Mind you this was a GA16DE -> SR20DET swap.

Edit Never mind. Your only 16?!?!

Maybe theres a difference between how the W10 and W11 fit. Red your motor IS a Black top with the BB turbo part number right?

So you cut the crossmember not the oil pan, correct? Either way you got to cut something. I think I have heard of some not having to cut (since it's not a major cut you have to take out), but yeah you can cut either the crossmember or the oil pan.

Im putting in a W10. Id rather Cut my Crossmember then my Oil pan. I read a few times that Miko had to cut the crossmember and I always wonderd why. I guess this is why...

RedDrgaun I wish I had an B13 that was Turbo at 16! BUt are you sure your motors a W11? W10's have silver Valve covers W11's are black valve covers. The valve cover really isnt what matters though. Its the Turbo part number that matters. Whats the part number on yours?

Miko said it was a W11... I think the W11's are silver and W10's black. I'd have to look at the turbo...

The Valve cover doesnt really matter. The W11 is just a newer motor. But what does matter is if it has the BB turbo or not.

Miko himself said that the W11 Avenirs are Black top motors. Some people on here debate that and say that some W11's were Silver top. But im just curious to know if yall have BB turbos or not. Whats the part number on the turbo?

Most of the rocker covers do not make a licking difference as to what motor you have. Check the cylinder head casting near the dizzy to confirm which engine you have. Also, check the block engine number as that can help identify the motor as well.

From experience, the Japanese love to swap/paint rocker covers as much as we do.

If your Turbo has any other part number then 14411-WF500 its not a ball bearing Turbo...

You can also tell its ball bearing because it will spin alot easier then the Regular Avenir Turbo.

I got my motor from Miko, and he said it was ball bearing. If I get time I will go look but I am pretty sure it is.

T25g from the avenier is a considered to be a ball bearing turbo but not as good as the GT25.

I have a 98 Avenir (that's what I was told) with silver valve cover installed in a 94 SE-R. A custom front motor mount was the only mod required. The turbo outlet pipe does come really close to the crossmember, but with solid motor mounts, it shouldn't be an issue. I've had this car for 3 years with no problems.
