I've looked through TigerJapanese's photos on their site and it seems in one photo that they have around 30 silver VC SR20DE/T motors.

Kind of the luck of the draw I think. I also believe they do such big business that they don't inspect the motors that well before they leave.

Might get lucky, however, and end up with a W11 for $700! now that would be a deal. I'm sure they don't even look at turbo serial numbers. In theory, however, a person should have the best luck w/the Avenir because it will be the newest of the SR20DETs(1998+)

here's what they sent me

here's what one swipe of my finger got me

emailed them as i've had the motor for 2 days...let's see how they handle this. inbelieveable that it took me two minutes to find something that their inspections didnt.

yeah im not too entirely pleased with my avenir either. first off i checked the shaft play on the turbo, horrible, great paper weight. so i pulled the turbo off, when i pulled out the banjo bolt for the coolant line a 1 in long piece of rtv fell out. great now i gotta strip the block. so i got the block stripped and everything looks great. order the new piston rings and the end gap was outta spec. so i gauged the bore and is a 86.5mm bore. now i need a new set of rings. so to add insult to injury i mic'd the piston and its a standard grade 2 piston, so now i need new pistons. im sure in my case it was the luck of the draw but damn i learned a lesson on discount motors.

The turbo on mine has no shaft play at all. The motor was decently clean, Not as clean as my Soko motor, but not bad.
Only problem was they pulled the motor by the water line to turbo and fuel line... Wouldn't it be just as easy to pull it by the intake manifold and trans or something..?

my buddies motor that we got from tigerjapanese is all put together and in the car. when we popped the vc off, it was a nice and shiny golden color.. hopefully it fires up no problem today for him and his dad. unfortunately i cannot be there to work on it anymore because of another 50 hour work week.. (oh well more money towards my motor!)

@ACR, any updates?

All this info is good to read, I have been debating on getting an Avenir from them for about 15 days now (actually I am waiting on all the extra parts needed to show up).

Keep the experiences coming folks!

looks like i'll be cleaning an engine full of sludge. guess i'll use diesel once its running. for now, i'll remove the VC and clean it up as best i can. they dont want it back.

** This is an automated e-mail from JDM Tiger Japanese, please do not reply to this **

Comments:
All JDM engines we sell are in servisable condition, as long as the engine is good you do have to do service in the engine.
Thanks
Mike Younos

i could do a chargeback, but no guarantee i'll get another motor. plus, they'll send me a clean one with a knock. maybe this motor was simply negelcted becuase the owner was busy driving it, which is a good thing. besides, it was pretty soft so wish me luck.

I was just inquiring about their avenier det's over the phone which seem to be very reasonably priced. the rep sounded like he didnt know too much about what he was talking about nor sounded like he cared. sucks to know its a hit or miss with this company, seeing how im in canada, shipping woulda been cheaper too.

you mean de+t?

I doubt they are putting turbos on the SR20DE's they have and selling them. There are other ways to confirm it's an Avenir(or at least a DET) other than the turbo I believe.

i bought my rwd det from them a couple months ago. really only had one complaint - i paid for a blacktop and got a redtop. they refunded me the difference though. the engine was clean as hell inside. cant say too much about the outside because both main seals were blown. its rebuilt now and going into my car today as a matter of fact.

Just got my motor running yesterday from tiger. I replaced the plugs and noticed in one cylinder was full of water! I sucked it out threw some tranny fluid in there and cranked her over. Put the plugs in and the motor runs stong. Please with the set-up. Tiger is a hit and miss though - They sent me a u12 that was in horrible condition when i ordered a u13.

You're probably going to need a new crank as well.

deffinatly pop the oil pans off and take good pics of crank and bad rod.. If it's bad they should replace that too. Don't let em ream you bro. I was pleased with my DET from them and they were very nice to me but I didn't have to deal with issues like some of the negative's in this thread.
