Im tryin to figure out which engine i should use. I know that the GTiR has higher redline, hp, and compression. but i was told that the GTiR engine will cost more to repair and its very differnet than the bluebird engine, as in vaccuum lines and such so problems will be that much harder to find. Is this true? Im swappin one or the other into my b15 before sept. i just want the better of the two engines in my car...

You have not done research, its the same engine, redlines are only ecu based which if youre gonna make it go fast you would raise it anyway, and the gtir has LOWER compression, yes it will cost more.
do more research, see the SEARCH button? use it, i did, ive moved a long way

It's a largely opinionated question. I would say go with the R, but I have one. I've never had problems finding parts for my engine. And I have sourced pretty much all the options to get parts if need be.
Case in point = cams. Everyone in the States seems to assume that only JW makes cams for the R, but that is far from ture. A ton of people do (HKS, Tomei, JUN, Piper, and more) you just have to look. Most are not going to be in the States. Why would they be, the engine was never made over here.
That being said, if you are smart and look you will easily find parts if need be. Network and get in the with R groups across the world. The engine has many advantages over the others, but you do have to work to maintain it.
If you are looking for ease and quickness then go with a BB. Most replacement parts can be taken from the other SR20s and the swap should be easier. 'Course, that said you are swapping into a B15, and I would imagine both swaps would be about the same in difficulty.
So, to sum up:
GTi-R is better, stronger, has more power, and has the cool factor of being rarer, but you have to work to be able to maintain it.
BB is easier to work with, easier to maintain, but everyone and their mom has one it seems.
Oh, and also, I've never had problems with my vacuum lines. There are a lot of them, but it's not as horrable as everone is making it out to sound.

Ok, well as for the swap, if i get the front clip all i need are the b15 se motor mounts and it drops in. As for the parts i can get them pretty easily. i just don't want an engine thats going to have more down time than running time. Also, at first the engine is going to be completely stock for at least 6 months, and be dd for that time.

I have the same motor and agree with this 100%. They are both good motors, I have done plenty swaps with both. I am happy with my motor and have surprised alot of people with it.

but you still havent learned to not be an a$$hole. Some people do search but dont know how to use the correct "key" words and they dont find what they're looking for. People get flamed on here so much its not even cool. G20.net is a great place for non-a$$es to go because most people will give criticism but its constructive. We are the same community but sometimes I feel that G owners like people more and are more willing to help. I feel that if you want to tell someone to search then just dont reply.

As for the question. If you want raw horsepower, the GTI-R motor is the way to go but if you have a set amount to spend and play with then the Bluebird (U12 & U13) or Aveniar (W10 & W11 SR20's) motors are cheaper and still pack a punch.
well i was planning to spend anywhere from 2.5k to 3k to complete the swap with a 5-spd conversion. i work at a nissan dealership, so i have access to a lift and all the airtools i need. i was planning to buy the whole front clip so i would have everything, and get the mounts, petals, and trans stuff oem. when i swap it im leaving it stock, no fmic, etc. For at least 5 months. from what i read it shouldnt be that hard to do. any more pointers lmk.
What you have planed for the ECU? Retuning a B15 one, or rewiring the whole harness for the older engine and ECU to work in your B15?
With that price range if you are just going for a straight drop and nothing special added then go with the R. You can easily land in that range with an R swap.

BB for me. tons of sr parts for it are readily available at your dealer. And local places carry more parts for it. It is simple and reliable. The gtir is a great motor, but because of parts availability i wouldnt take it over the bb motors.
