Finished my Air to Water setup

After 10 weeks of waiting for my Spearco air to water, I finally got my car together.

The Air to water system consists of:
- Spearco IC #2265 (good for 400hp)
- Summit 1 Gallon Jr. Dragster fuel cell (Jaz cell sold as Summit)
- 500 GPH Marine pump
- AC condensor as the heat exchanger
- Switch for pump and foglight switch running 2nd fan

Pump in the wheel well

All in my ghetto sleeper

Thanks everyone.

I never see too many people using air to water setups on the forum, I thought I'd try something a little different, plus I really didn't want a FMIC to mess up my styling. I tried to keep the intake piping as short as possible and the install as stealthy as I could. I hope to get a website up soon with some better detailed pictures of the install.

Are you gonna run any antifreeze in there or just straight water?

Straight water for now, but in the winter I'm gonna have to add some antifreeze. I was thinking of running some Redline WaterWeter in there now.

At the track it should be easy enough to drain the water with the petcock and add ice.

You may have done this already but putting rubber washers on the mounting points would help keep the pump noise down.

I give that a 10 for being very inovative. Does it make a lot of sound? And does the water ever get hot and have the reverse effect?

very nice.... I wanted to do something similar 2 years ago but didn't have the time to design a system up.

Wow, thats really cool. Not sure how effective it'll be in daily use though. Its going to get pretty hot pretty quick, might end up doing more heating than it does cooling!

how do you like it? Have you iced up your resivoir yet and tried it? It makes a hell of difference! We picked up 3 tenths or so and about 3-4 mph with ice at about 12psi on a T3 setup.

That's what the marine pump and extra A/C condensor are for. Keeps the water nice and (relatively) cool.

I think it will work fine in daily use. I have a heat exchanger radiating heat from the water, with a fan on the foglight switch to pull air across it in slow traffic. I'm also using more than 1 gallon of water in the system.

Don't forget that it takes a 4 degree increase in air temp to raise the water temp 1. Of course the downside of that is that it takes 4 times longer for the water to cool back off. Once you stop and shut the car down the water gets pretty heat soaked, so I put the pump on a switch that I can leave on when I run in the store.

So far it seems to be working good. The cold side of the IC stays noticeably cooler as well as the water jacket. I haven't tried ice yet, but I definitely will. I plan on dynoing sometime soon and make runs with just water then with ice.

Re: Finished my Air to Water setup
