I have an ACT XT00 setup with a fidanza flywheel. I am light on 3rd gear (as in I don't slam into third at high RPMs). Other than that I drive normal. I have ES inserts and the full ES master bushing kit as well.

My old car had a DET, T28, S3 cams, and alot of mods. I had the ACT HD clutch, and it slipped bad. The clutch wasnt worn, it just couldnt handle the power the car made. At 13-14PSI, I went 12.7 in the 1/4 mile. Thats with a 5500 rpm clutch side step on drag slicks. My car had 75 launches at the strip, and when I sold it, the origional tranny(80K miles) was still shifting smooth.

The det was installed and driven by me for around 15K miles, and beat on alot. 3rd got redlined everytime i drove it.

t3/t04e, no broken trannies! This was all on an act hd p/p & s/s disk. I just installed a spec stage 3 and fidanza flywheel and i got major slippage now, cannot boost over 12psi or clutch slips. was running 18psi consistently with zero problems.

one broke with T-28, ACT SS disc HD PP while I was shifting into third.
One broke cryro treated 3rd gear with GT28RS, McClod clutch while already engaged in 3rd gear.
Gotta love boost
So far the B15 trans has taken the moost torque without breaking.

No blown trannies yet, with 15k HARD miles on T25 set up at 12psi. But most of the time in normal driving i dont use 3rd gear just like spdracerUT said. Now i use 3rd sice i put the straight T4 on because the lag. So far i have about 10-15 miles on the new set up and ran it at 22psi today, no problems yet . Usually I run it at 18psi though.

why do you guys think it's 3rd that usually seems to break? is it because the gear is weaker? or do you guys think its because of other reasons. my thoughts on this is: 3rd gear breaks most b/c it probably gets the most wear. when you're usually on the gas hard, you're most likely in 3rd gear. 1st and 2nd are too short to do significant damage, and 4th and 5th are too tall to really get into the meaty part of the powerband.... any thoughts?

I think it's design. I noticed that it's allot of play in there between the 2 stacks. So allot of torque probably makes them seperate just enough to get the teeth to the edge of each other then it just shreds. $.02

3rd is waaay skinnier than all the rest of the gears.... and yes movement in the stacks and fatigue..which grow off of each other, is usually what causes failures

don't use 3rd in daily driving. I just take 2nd up to 30+ mph or redline
