California? Some Q's for californians near bottom.

Well, as of right now, im enrolled in a Toyota Program at Clark College here in Vancouver, WA, but when this program is finished im left with a "what to do now" question. Upon completion of this program, they say im almost guaranteed a job at toyota.. WRONG. small text, my driving record screws me outta that one. Plus, after two years of the ins and outs of toyota vehicles they still start you on the lube rack. screw toyota and their lame cars.

So I've been hearing about Wyotech from a graduate, and he loved it. He went there, and after graduation of the diesel program started a job at 20+ an hour.

So i decided that after this toyoter program is over i am going to try to go to wyotech in sacramento. Im interested in a few programs they offer under their "automotive technology", such as High performance powertrain, motorsports chassis fabrication, and street rod and custom fabrication. (as all of you would)

here are my questions:

Is california really that great? (Im from rainy WA and hate the rain, and love shasta lake lol)

How hot is it throughout the year? does it rain?

Whats Sacramento like? better than Portland, OR? Whats there to do? how close is the race track?

I always here about CARB approval and how lame it is, is it really that bad? do cops impound and crush everything illegal? According to our Emissions Guide Book it says anything with "tampered" EGR is illegal. Motor swaps included! According to that book, my NX is illegal?? but how illegal is it? i know there are people down in cali with the same situation.

How expensive is living? Can a young adult 20-21 live an "ok" life? For instance, gas here is $4.67 for premium. Whats it like in cali?

Any response besides calling me a tard is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

K-Lub aka budgetNX

You can get bye in Sac pretty cheap. Its got a little grid of trendiness so you can keep your finger on the pulse of whatever scene you are into. Hot as fu*k in summer. Mild winters without the rain we get. They are strict about cars but you can work it out if you are smart.

Just fyi Portland has pretty low emissions standards. Washington is a bit higher but not much.

California is great but the only thing that kills it is the CARB/Smog crap laws they have here. Well us in so cal dont get that much rain here its been months since last time it has rained. As for the Mods that our car have theyres always a place to get it "done" passing it. Cops dont smash your car here, just by daily driving it.
I had been running a t3/t4 on my sentra for 8 months and not one time did i get stopped. Its just a sentra. And gas is pretty much expensive its 4 67 for regular today. but over all it is nice to live in cali. but depends on what part of cali your living in

all they had to offer in fremont was the advanced auto tech.they didn't have collision and all that other stuff.it was cool but it's what you make of it really.they also offered you a bmw scholorship where they pay for your bmw class to be a master tech for bmw.but what they don't tell you is if you don't get a job for bmw in 30 days after you finish that class then you have to pay for it.so like i said it's what you make of it.

no not delivery.it's that to diagnose a car you have to test drive it before and after to see if you fixed the problem.

Tech schools are what you make of them, but why not just go to community / junior college? It's cheaper.

I have a friend who went to one of the schools to become a Harley tech. They promised him all this crap. Yeah, he got offered a $9hr job at best. Which ain't crap considering $8 is the minimum wage in Cali .

I know you can make a ton of money doing diesel. A friend of mine builds turbo diesels and makes like 20+ hr and he never went to school for it. But, he's also a genius.

**************Is california really that great?*************

Answer: Um...duh. Like, I hella like love Cali man, like...it rocks.

For real though, I've only met one person who hasn't liked Cali...and that's with 4 years in the Marine Corps and meeting everyone from every where. The one guy who didn't like it...didn't like San Diego. But, he's also a redneck from no where Pennsylvania and loves it there, so he doesn't count.

Q: How hot is it throughout the year?

A: It's HOT in Sacramento. It's been in the 100's for the past few weeks. It's calming down...which means mid-high 90's. Sacramento is too far from the coast to get that good weather like them damn San Deigans!

Q:Whats Sacramento like? better than Portland, OR? Whats there to do? how close is the race track?

A: Sacramento is.......Sacramento. Honestly, I don't think it's anything special. I mean, there's nothing way cool about it. It's a big city, but doesn't really have any perks like SD, LA, SF and SJ. It's expensive, hot and big. I've been here since 1992 and have seen it grow. But, I think Sac is really just the biggest suburb buildup ever.

Sac can also get pretty ghetto...so you have to watch where you live. I can tell you yes/no on most places, but if you end up coming down...definately stay away from Del Paso Heights, North Highlands, Oak Park, South Sac, RILINDA (aka Rio Linda) and a few other parts. But, it's also expensive to live anywhere nice that you don't have to worry about idiots trying to be gangsters or getting your car broken into / stolen. *but, with an NX, you're good...ahaha! j/k!

Q: I always here about CARB approval and how lame it is, is it really that bad? do cops impound and crush everything illegal? According to our Emissions Guide Book it says anything with "tampered" EGR is illegal. Motor swaps included! According to that book, my NX is illegal?? but how illegal is it? i know there are people down in cali with the same situation.

A: Yes, CARB stuff is laaaaaaaaaaaame. But, unless you're being an idiot when you drive...you can almost guarantee you'll never get pulled over. I never did and I have plenty of friends that never did. The only ones were the ones being stupid, speeding, revving at Honda's and V8's...etc.

Also, you're going to be a mechanic...just take the illegal crap off, smog it and put it back on. My dad has a STI and used to have regular WRX that he sold to my brother in law. For both cars, he takes the stuff off that needs to be taken off, smogs it, and puts it back on. You only have to smog every two years.........

A lot of stuff is illegal, but unless you're a dickhead to the cop or being stupid, most likely they don't even care. Besides, mostly you just get 'fix-it' tickets. So...eh, whatever.

Q: How expensive is living? Can a young adult 20-21 live an "ok" life? For instance, gas here is $4.67 for premium. Whats it like in cali?

A: That depends on how good you are with your money. I'm married and live in Roseville (one of the nicer and more expensive neighborhoods of Sac) and we're doing just fine. Granted I'm living off savings...but I'm good with money and am living within my means until I'm done with school. My brother works a part time job with 30hrs a week at $10hr and is better off than both of us.

Find a roommate, get a cheap apartment, live within your means and just know...you've got to pay to play. I'd rather have less money and live in Cali than have more and be effing bored everywhere else.

If you have any questions just let me know. If you actually decide to move down here, let me know too. I can check out places for you that you might wanna stay in. I'm bored and don't really work, so I have a lot of free time until I find a better job and/or start school.

Oh, I also forgot to mention that my friend that went to the Harley school was going to go to WyoTech or UTI...but after talking to a few people, he was told they got shafted just like him. Paid $20,000 for school and were offered oil changing jobs. The other friend who didn't go to school, knew people and got in places and he's actually a highschool dropout.

So, it's all about who you know. I'd say go to community college, get your stuff done there and get in quicker. You can work part time changing oil while you go to school. Then you'll know people and get into places quicker. But that's just me.

Good luck either way!

i was guaranteed a tech 2 spot at sears, meaning i was going to skip oil and tires lol, and once they saw my driving record they rejected my application. all because i was going to have to move peoples cars...

Get a degree in nursing. They have diploma programs that take 2 years for RN. I am 24 yo making 30+ dollars an hour, having four days off a week with 5weeks vacation and thats on GA living expenses. CA nurses make 40+ easy. Then you can play with all the cars you want, have your own garage etc.

Do you know anything about the nursing profession? I love my job. I make a difference in people's lives every single day. I take care of veterans of the U.S. military and I get to play with my toys 4 days out of every 7 on top of it.
