Seriously want to move to Los Angeles

so..

my friends tell me I'm nuts and that the cost of living is twice as much as it is here.

I don't care.

There is a girl out there who I grew up with, and we've always had a thing for each other and every time I get into a relationship with someone here I start comparing them to this gal in L.A.

Well I have come to the point where I realize I have to give this girl (in L.A.) a chance... well, not give her a chance, but I need to give "us" a chance.

What better time to do it then right now while I'm between jobs?

Ok, so here's what I need help with. I need contact info for job placement bureau's in so-cal. I am a telecommunications engineer (SONET and DWDM) I could git into a mid-level engineering position right away in SONET or DWDM. I would prefer to get into VoIP, but I would have to take an entry level position.

My passion however, is cars - Nissan's and BMW's to be exact. So above the telecommunications stuff, I would love to get a job in the automotive industry if possible. That is why I am posting here. Really though, anything in So-Cal would work! I am tired of dreaming about this girl. (She wants me out there too...)

anyway I thought I'd get this started, I need to get some contacts in So Cal..

-Matt

oh heck ya...

but emissions might be a problem. The car was originally a Tennessee car (the owner was in a suburb just south of Syrnma, which is just south of Nashville)

and being that it's 17 years old, I might have to keep it licensed in Kansas for a while. where emissions test do not exist.

I hear the place to be these days is Seattle... more jobs, no income tax, cheaper houses.. good real estate market..

Having lived in CA for several years, if you aren't making a lot of money (over 80,000 grand) you are pretty much living in poverty.

Jobs are impossible to come by because the market is over saturated with too many over-educated people. The people who work at starbucks have masters, some phd. degrees- thats not to say that those degrees helped them get the job, just that jobs are hard to come by.

And internships on craigslist are a waste of time. Theres too many people here that are looking for free/cheap labor, and it doesn't help when someone says that you work for free now, and they will pay you later, if the project takes off... trust me you won't - even if the project does take off.

We'll welcome you with open arms. if you need help finding a place, hang-outs, or just plain bored when you get here, hit me up. If you plan on flying down here, let me know. i'll be more then glad to pick you up.

Jobs/careers are not as hard to find as people state it is. Btw, it is LA.

I live about 10-15mins away from santa monica so if anything, im here bro. Keep us updated.

i have nothing bad to say about Seattle. I have been there, I spent 2 weeks in the pacific northwest, its beautiful and all. But I have a reason to go to Los Angeles. Did you even read my post? There is a girl there. Seattle is out of the question. It's either KC or LA.

I've had a few semi-serious/serious girlfriends since my divorce 3 years ago, and I keep comparing them to this girl - not my ex-wife.

I am going to kick myself in the a.ss if I don't do what I have to do to give her and I a chance. We've never been able to give us a chance. I've known her for 20+ years. Here in KC, i am seeing this wonderful gal right now, someone whom I could get serious with. But the problem is, this girl in L.A. is in the back of my mind and I keep wondering what "could be"... etc.. you only live once and I have to know or the rest of my days will be spent wondering about "what if"... So I gotta do this.

that's the way to do it. Usually people move the other way, from New York to Florida. When I lived in North Carolina they also had "half-backs"..

Those were people who had moved from New York to Florida, and started to move back to New York and only made it to North Carolina.. LoL.. there were enough of them that they called them "half-backs".. anyway.....

As a SoCal-hopeful myself (my parents and my brother moved there not too long ago), I say go for it.

Though I thought I remember you sayin a while back that you bought a townhouse for like $75k down there in KS. Good luck finding a townhouse for 3-4x that in LA lol, though now is the time to buy.

I don't know if moving that far for a woman is the greatest motive, but I guess its better than moving from like...LA to Kansas for a woman

I'm not going to buy there. my townhouse is WAY low for the area. most in this area would go for $125k to $150k. but I'm in a trashy part of town, I'm in the suburbs of Kansas City (not out in the country).. I can get to downtown KC in 15 minutes.
