moderators are kind of like forum watch dogs. They insure that forums do not become taken over with pointless or irrelavent topics and also that each thread is posted in the right forum.

Also, on some boards, they turn out to be babysitters, stepping in and preventing retarded internet message board debates which turn into personal attacks. arguments.

They can delete threads also... kind've cool if you have a god complex that needs satsfying.
