The NEW OFFICIAL SR2011 Convention REVIVAL!

Hello Everyone!
Due to recent events as you may all know the 2011 nissan/infiniti convention has been cancelled due to lack of commitment. With this being said we’d like to announce the NEW 2011 SR20 convention Revival. This will be held from august 5-7 in Central Connecticut. A schedule of events is below. Any questions can be sent via PM to Marksr20, Jimithin7000, or happynole. Emails are also accepted, email addresses listed at bottom of this message.

HOTEL INFORMATION:

Four Points by Sheraton Meriden
275 Research Parkway
Meriden, CT 06450
Phone: (203) 238-2380

Happynole is getting a group rate for us as I type this but I couldn’t resist posting this up. This will be updated very shortly. Im gonna guess that the rates will be $89/night.. This will be updated very shortly!

Friday:

Depending on your arrival time we have a few options that can best accommodate everyone!
A) Hotel arrival and check in:
Once everyone is settled into their rooms I think dinner should be a great place to meet and greet. There is a restaurant/bar-grille that is next to option B below that will serve as a great place for food and an introduction to the weekend of events
B) Kart Racing:
On Track Karting Ultimate Indoor Racing Take a look at this website to get all the information you need about these go karts. After Dinner/meet&greet we’ll make our way over to the kart track for some racing fun to start the weekend off right. Every year we have a sr20deep meet/outing, it ends up starting or finishing here. For those of you that are not interested in this please check out option
C) Dyno:
We have 4 dyno sessions available at The sr20deep HQ on Friday night starting at 60pm and wrapping the night up at 110pm. If you would like base runs and/or tuning please specify. It is a dyno dynamics unit. This is by signup only. If you would like to watch at our facility that is an option as well.

Saturday:

Drag Racing/ Free day
A) Lebanon Valley Dragway:
The gates open at 8:30am and racing starts at 9:30am. Racing ends at 4:30pm , The cost is $35 . This facility is located an hour-1/2 northwest of where we will be staying and it will be a fun caravan there and back.
This is a message I received from the track:
Mark you are welcome at the track on Sat. for test and tune . The cost is $35.00 dollars per car and driver ,crew is $10.00 dollars . We can have a seperate lane for your group. Anyone running 13.99 or quicker will need a Snell 2000 or newer helment. Wayne: lvdragway
If we have a group of over 20 cars drag racing(which I don’t see that being a problem) we will have a separate lane setup(2 car lane) so we can race against each other ! B) Dinner/Nightlife:
After Racing all day Food should be in order. There is a street scene in our area that is very popular from all types of cars. Whats nice about it is there are restaurants all over the place where these cars tend to hang out. Depending on the mood your in we can all do a TBA restaurant and enjoy the night out doing what we all are interested in(eating and cars!! LOL)

Sunday:

A) AUTOCROSS: Thompson speedway has an auto-x event on Sunday. For those of you interested in racing in a time trail fashion and having fun for an affordable rate this is it!! Below is an email from the organizer of this event stating the rules of auto-x
Email:
Check out our web site for all the details. Connecticut Autocross & Rally Team
Basically show up at 80am and take everything out of your cars (everything).
The battery must be secured (no bungie cords), brakes working, all lug nuts there, etc. approved helmet (See site, no loaners) drivers license if 18 or 19 years old (no one under 18), Look for our timing trailer and a line of people. you will have to get a number (table at rear of trailer), then register at trailer and pay fee, get work assignment. Then take cars to the tech line to be checked out (make sure everything is removed, floor mats, debris, everything).
You will have to attend a novice walk through and meeting (about 10am but will be announced). If you have any questions please view our site or e-mail me.

Thanks, Bob Doiron
Activities Chairman
CART
B) Meet/Picnic:
The auto-x will be completed around 1pm and we are going to be hosting a meet/picnic at Hubbard Park in Meriden CT(which has hosted many g20.net NE picnics) after 1pm. This will be where we eat/bs/eat some more. We have a sectioned pavilion for us. Whenever everyone decides to get on the road from here then that will conclude the events from the weekend.

That should explain everything you will need to know. Any questions can be relayed to [email protected] or [email protected] or [email protected] If you will be attending please email one of us above so we can have a list of people and there interests so accommodating you can be made easier.

A short history lesson to ease the fears for those of you that don’t know about us:

Sr20deep has been hosting meets for over 10 years and we have anywhere from 50-100+ sr20 powered cars at these events. Some of the people are not involved on the forum which will make it even better for meeting new people with the same interests. This will be also be a great opportunity to put faces on those forum names you talk with on a constant basis. Last but not least we have tried to accommodate the same dates as the Nissan/infiniti convention due to members that were going to attend the cancelled convention that already took time off of work and made arrangements to come. We are located 2-1/2 hours north from where the convention was going to be held. I hope this does not make a difference in your plans. Not only that we have Happynole supervising and coordinating (and you’ve all seen the 09 convention’s success!).

I'm confused as to why the people that will show up for this event, didn't sign up for the convention.

I can come up with many opinions as so can you and all the forum members from this site and g20.net and the dash... I know Kieran and Ray needed prior commitment for the road course and about 75% of the people that were going to the convention were not going on the road course. I commend them for there work and there efforts and I am sorry to see that it was unsuccessful. I personally was not going to sign up for the track day as my car is not setup for it. I was going to attend but I had about 30 people that were not on the forums coming with me. These people I tried to round up before the announcement was made but I didnt feel that what I was doing had to be rushed. Since the decision was made I could not see all the people that were looking forward to it sit in there houses that weekend and mow the lawn or watch tv. And Neither could the rest of sr20deep that contacted me about this. So we are doing our best to make this an open style convention that you can do whatever options you want. If you dont prefer the options we have then there are plenty more you can come up with in the area with boston and nyc a 1-1/2 hr drive or train or bus ride away.

Thats my opinion.. im sure people have others. We were all planning to attend but it didnt happen. There are a lot of last minute sign ups and that was not a risk that kieran or ray wanted to take(and I cant blame them one bit for it).

With this being said: Come join us. Kieran and Ray and Chriscar and shawn B and ETC ETC are. It should be a great time

I cannot really say anything but my opinion is that it kind of got forgotten about, I personally wanted to register for the early bird but didn't get a chance to register until way after that. I kept buying parts, paying bills etc with not much left over until I made a point to register.

Plus, what we are offering is pretty low buck, nothing against Kieran or Ray but without even signing up for the track day you could spend over 100 dollars just registering, buying raffle tickets, picnic and car show tickets etc.

Crappy economy, less and less "track junkies", smaller community of "die-hard" SR20-heads....hellifiknow....

"Why does not always matter, what matters is what is, and what are you going to do about it." Quote from one of my shrinks.

I think I was one of the first to sign up for everything with the original 2011 Convention.

As it stands, I'm still going to go get my "SR20 car nut" fix at the Deep-sponsored and planned 2011 Convention. I've never done an autocross or 1/4 mile track, so I'll give those a shot.

Hell, at this point I am just going with the flow and damn happy that the Deep guys scooped up the ball and are running with it.

My take is the younger generation, who are the vast majority of active members at this point, find hp and the drag scene more appealing. Not that there's anything wrong with that. A convention centered around road course DE just isn't in line with that. Things have definitely changed. I'm good either way. The karting track in CT, as well as, the autox will fill my "road course" fix.

4 doors ain't so bad......

Nothing wrong with it.

However, as a certified old-fart, I much prefer my g-forces laterally. 20-minutes on a road-course approaches euphoric.

Ditto.

In the future, hopefully we can once again incorporate a road-course event at the Convention. I'm currently upgrading both my suspension and my brakes.
