You're better off with a 3/8 NPT tap. 1/2
could be used but 3/8 is big enough, plus
if you screw up you can move up to the 1/2 NPT.

The 3/8 tap can be bought at Ace hardware,
the 37/64 drill bit can be bought from Bisco
Tools (look on the web.) The fitting is a steel
heater hose fitting (3/8 NPT) bought at Pep Boys.

NPT is National Pipe Thread a common style here. The threads are tapered for a tighter seal. It's fine for what you need just make sure your tap and fitting are both NPT.

I have the exact right drill and tap for the oil return line to fit the BB DET's hard line nipple in the block. Let me know if you want to borrow it. I have lent them to SR20 people a few times now and will continue to lend them out.

Hey ben its rick from KC.... I may need to borrow that from ya. I just ordered a bb manifold, turbo, downpipe, and oil and water lines from andreas. I am gonna try going this way for now and see how i can do. I think it ought to satisfy my power urge for a while anyway. Still need to get a lot of stuff yet though so it may be a little while. Keep me in mind.

Thanks
Rick

Hybrid et al:
Thanks for the good post.
1. What size are the water fittings? 1/2 npt?
2. Can I hook up to the throttle body heater ports?
Cheers,
Charlie

Yes, Charlie, that's exactly how I did my water lines.

I dreamt about installing and FMAX kit in my NX last night... I think I need to get another hobby :)

Here is another way...

OEM DET metal lines were used but were cut
~6" past the turbo. This enabled me to clamp on 3/8" ID rubber heater hoses which then snaked backed towards the firewall and teed into the two ~5/8" hoses running to the heater core.

Got the turbo back from Majestic. Very nice work BTW.

The water fittings are 1/4" npt.

I can't find a source to sell me a fitting for the oil return. I'm going to fabricate one from an electrical junction box with an 1/2" npt fitting.

Anyone have a source to purchase the oil return fitting or jdm parts?

Cheers,
Charlie :)
