if you havent seen this and signed you should, this might make it to where nissan will fix the 5th gear in the sr20de cars, go to the website below to sign.

I have just read and signed the online petition:

"5TH Gear Synchro Recall on Nissan SR20DE Cars"

hosted on the web by PetitionOnline.com, the free online petition
service, at:

I personally agree with what this petition says, and I think you might
agree, too. If you can spare a moment, please take a look, and consider
signing yourself.

Ya think the fact that the petition has been online for over 4 years means anything?

I signed that in the #23 spot in 1999.

Don't think it's going to happen, sport.
wasn't just for 2 years...91 and 92. i thought in 93 they fixed it. either way...its been over 10 years. not a chance.
has anyone seen it after 92? 93?

and im reading the comments. jeez. someone complains about the seatbelts, which had been recalled. others are saying they might never buy another nissan because of a 10+ yo problem. then someone complains about a slipping clutch (how old is the car?) and how hard it is to get into 2nd (motor mounts worn?) someone with a 240sx sr20 is having pop out??
"THE SUBARU SVX HAS A NISSAN BASED AUTOMATIC AWD TRANSMISSION WHICH FAILS AS EARLY AS 20K, COSTING OWNERS $4000 IN REPAIRS! NISSAN TRANSMISSIONS SUCK!"
5th gear is weak. dont lean on the shifter when you are cruising.
Has anyone seen [5th-gear pop-out] after 92? 93?
Yep, know of at least one '94 and a couple of B14s with this problem. Am I the only one on this board that remembers these kinds of details when perusing messages?

i just remember when i had mine replaced (no pop-out), everyone told me to get a 93 up because they were less prone to have pop out. when i first got on the list about 5 or 6 years ago, i always read about 91 and 92 drivers who had pop out, but never anyone else. what i should have said was "i thought in 93 they 'fixed' it"
but my point was just that youre statement would read "i know of at least one 91 who doesn't have it, and a couple 92s that don't" if you were talking about the first years (exaggeration :) ).
i was sincerely asking about what years have had it, though.

It was more common with the '91 and '92 cars, but I do remember a few '93 and '94 cars with it. I knew someone with a '94 that didn't have 5th gear.
Weird. My '91 was at 160k when I sold it, never had the problem. I guess it was hit or miss.
I think the problem occurs from accelerating in 5th gear. especially at speeds over 90mph. my car went 150k before it ever had a problem. but it was driven by an old lady all that time. once i got ahold of it i thrashed 5th in a few month:) then i discovered the forum and the turbo life.

its from putting stress on the weak forks, bending them. things like resting your hand on the shifter while driving cause it....i dont see how accelerating in gear can cause it.
i never believed the hand and shifter story. i though nissan just made that up. but we are bringing up a really old topic.
