98+ JWT ECU update

604 Views 10 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Ben
I ordered my ECU and sent in my spare 99 ECU as core exchange. They sent it back and said they would no longer take 98+ ECUs as core for the 95-97 ECU.
I spoke to Jim and he said that the development was not finished this winter so it won't be worked on again until next winter.

Doesn't that suck, I was so looking forward to 7800rpm. Anybody got a spare 95-97 stock ECU?

Here is what you do call Auto Gator @ 800-252-6662 and order a used 95-97 stock ECU. It is for $225. I just did that today. I will send the ECU to JWT to get it reprogrammed to work with the C3 cams that I will be getting soon.

I was like "yeah Jacens gonna say the 98 ECU is ready now"....I come in here and its WORSE than what it was before. Maybe it's time to take Naji's route.

Jacen, let me see what I can do. A friend got me a ECU for cheap. I'll e-mail you.
Man 98-99 owners are really ****ed. No LSD and all this extra $$ and effort to get a stinking ECU.

Damn... I must have been one of the lucky ones. JWT took my stock ECU for a core (I must have been the last one they accepted.) And the only extra I had to pay was for some solder and some heat-shrink tubing (less than 5 bucks.) Granted, I have yet to purchase a new rear o2 sensor and replaced the EGR solenoid valve... But the MIL doesn't bother me one bit, and I don't have to get the car smogged until next year.
I didn't realize how much I was missing without the VLSD until I started autocrossing the NX, though. Sheesh... No VLSD does suck!

Is it true that some of the 97's that were manufactured towards the end of the PY had the 98 ecu? My PY is 7/97.
Eric,
YES PLEASE!

Oh yeah? Well try it with a turbo! Man I could gain SOOOO much time with an LSD. I found myself working to "straighten out" the course as much as I could so I could have the wheel straight at 12 o'clock so I could utilize my power. If I had the wheel at 2 o'clock or so I had to baby the power so so much. Anyone know of a used 95-97 5 speed tranny around?

I have tried it with a turbo. It was a '97 Eclipse GS-T that I drove during fun runs. It had a Turbonetics Super-60 turbo (aka Super Sucky... similar to a T28)... The car has got to have been making 250hp. I was a good 3-4 seconds faster in that car than in my VLSD-less SE-R. I could only imagine how much better that car is now, now that it's equipped with a Quaife LSD.
