Hi NXers! It took me a while to find this forum (2 years off and on!). I have a 92 NX with 135K miles. I've done the normal mods (chip, header, CAI, lightweight flywheel, etc.). It still runs great, just had the leak down test on it. The worst of the 4 cylinders was at 93%! I'm VERY happy with the longevity of this motor.

On to the question - I'm trying to decide if I should build an all-motor NX or go with the DET. Bang for the buck, the turbo is the way to go, but I'd like some other feedback. For the all-motor, I was thinking JWT forged pistons, 11:1 or 11.5:1 CR, cams, head work, etc.

Any pro or cons for either option are welcome.

P.S. I thought I saw a variable valve version of the SR20DE for the Japanese market. Is this a figment of my imagination, or is there a VV version? I would love to get my hands on one of them, if there is such a thing. Can you say, "INTERGRA KILLER"?!?!

Carl Monopoli has a Turbo VVl in his NX2000, the only one in the US I believe.

even in Australia we are waiting for this motor to come over here but I'm guessing we'll be seeing them in about another 5 years??? bollocks mate!

I believe that the SR20DE's from Japan had a higher compression ratio due to thier 100 octane fuel.

I don't know if anyone is Oz had imported one of those SR20VVL's... i would'nt mind getting my hands on one though!

there is a VV version, it's called the SR20VE
and it is available in north america, guessing kinda hard to get a hold of and prolly not cheap either. DET would prolly be cheaper.
and there actually is a SR20VET as well at 278hp i believe

for the amount of money being invested the Turbo would be faster, but if you roadrace or autoX the NA route is alot more fun since there is no need to wait for boost and power surges arent always predicatable.
