I went out to race a friend of mine last night just for shifts and grins and when we were racing after I would hit about 4500 RPM all my lights would dim (inside and out) and when I would shift at redline the batt. light would flicker. So on my way to work tonight I tried it again. Same ****. happens with or without the radio on and it did not happen in the day time (no headlights). The car starts right up every time so I know the batt. is holding a charge. Do you think I need to change my alternator? What do you guys think?

hey ser_200sx, just got done replacing my alternator last week!

Mine was doing same thing, but at redline shifts, it was like overcharging, because the headlights would go brighter even when the bright lights were on!

I spent about $180 installed for a rebuilt one with a one year warranty. The new Nissan ones cost like $400+...ouch.

The good thing about replacing the alternator was that it must have been dragging or alittle stuck, because it feels alittle peppier off the line now :)

something else to look at is the connector for accessory power at the pos batt term. It's a red connector with two plugs going into it. I had a bad connection in one of my NX's, and my lights would flicker and all kinds of weird stuff would go on. I cleaned the contacts and sealed it up with some dielectric grease.

you know the same thing has been happening to me for like 2 months now but at any mid to high rpm's the batt. light flickers. I checked the voltage and ok but starters gone again and even with a push start , still flickers . ever since the ES motor mount inserts maybe vibration I have no clue but the light worries me you know its not blinking for looks! i think it's short in my case.
