My cam choices...need help!!

Ok just so i dont get flamed, I have searched and narrowed it down to 3 types of cams, but I do not know which set would be the most streetable and would also give me the most gains. I have not found hard data stating which one is the best. I have also seen the cam comparo list, but that did not help me very much. I want more hp than streetable but keep the price lower than $600.

The 3 that i have come up with are S3's, S4's(maybe C2's), and Tomei poncam with 260 duration @11.2mm lift. I know both companies are well known and make very good cams, but I just want the most gains for my money. Any insight as to which cams to get would be greatly appreciated.

IIRC: All C series cams require new valve springs. That would make your C2's over $1,000. I would drop those from your list if you have a $600 budget.

It's really up to you (I'd stick with JWT's or comp/zex cams), the S4's are gonna make more top end power and the S3's are gonna make more low end torque. Either cam would improve all around power over your stockers, but it's up to you to decide where you want the power the most.
I love my s4s. They were $600 including tax at the JWT office. They are pretty lopey, and its pretty doggy when its cold. Once you hit 5500rpm, its a whole different car.

The S3HL and S4HL cams will make more power for the money and be the most streetable of any SR cam. The C series requires valve springs. The Tomei is a very mild cam.

The S3 has a smoother idle than the S4. The S3 has a power potential of mid 150's when teamed with other good bolt ons, the S4 has the potential for low 160's under the same conditions.

Just botling on its usualy 150 for S3's and high 150's for S4's, but you can get the rest with dyno tuning fuel pressure, cam timing and ignition timing.

i have read good things about the s3's and s4's from the users on the forum but, i went a different route and picked up some comp/cams stage 4's with there set of valve springs, i still need to get them installed though.
thanks guys for all the input, I may be leaning more towards the s4, but will i need the jwt ecu to cure some of the lopiness? Or is it tolerable? Alsom Rico where did you order your cams from? Nipponpower used to sell them, but they dont show them on their website.

Mike
total was $586 shipped for both cams and springs.

I-duration 272 lift 11.48
E-duration 290 lift 11.68

hope this info helps you...
If you're the same guy at G20.net asking then dont get the S4's since you have an auto. If not disregard me. And I'll throw in the HKS 264's are nice too.
yep same guy, may go with s3's like most people have said. dont want to lose my bottom end like Justin said on g20.net.

S3 and S4 HL's are the latest versions of the S3 and S4 with higher lift.

The S5 needs to be tested by me and JWT and the C6M is being tested now, its what made my motor go to 200 whp.

Can only test one thing at a time.

Just to clear everything up Mike, whats the lift on the old S3 and S4s and the new S3HL and S4HLs?

and when did the change happen?
I guess i didnt get the HLs. It didnt say anywhere on the pakaging. I didnt even know they existed. I got mine about 2 months ago.

Around 6 months ago.

Apparently the specs on their website are from the old cams, the S4's lift listed on their site is the same as when the cams originally appeared in SCC's cam shootout in 2000 although the ones listed on their site claim 2° more duration

Zex/Comp Cams stopped making cams for the SR20.
