or whatever mechanism it is that prevents the car from being shifted into 1st gear unless the car comes to a complete stop.

reason i ask this is because i borrowed my uncle's 1994 nissan p/u truck for the day and it was so pleasant driving that thing around. at any speed below 10mph it'll slip into 1st gear with no hesitation.

on my se-r i have to bring the car to a stop or double-clutch to get it back in 1st. now tapdancing with the pedals during stop-n-go traffic is such a pain in the ass. even 132 pounds of torque isn't enough to get it going from 2nd gear.

why oh why did the nissan people put this inconvenient system in their car?

It is to keep you from easily over reving their cars. A lot of people will probably take there car to the redline in second, then slam it into third. It would be easy to mishift into 1st at this point. As far as redlining third, then mishifting into second, well, I suppose if you are going that fast, you better be paying better attention!

I autocross and have had no problem downshifting into 1st without stopping. Not sure how fast I'm going but certainly over 5mph. Also unless your racing someone 2nd pull pretty good from about 5mph on. I do it all the time on the freeway in stop and go LA traffic

I guess so... I've asked other people about this and they said it depends on car.

I've never noticed it before when I had my 94 civic... so it probably was able to do it.

No.

I can shift into first at 20mph, you just need to match your revs for first gear to your speed. At 5 mph 1500-1700 rpm usually allows the shifter to easily go into 1st gear.
Redline MT90 helps too.

I can't get it in even with rev-matching. It only works when i double-clutch. PlanoSER got it a couple of times by just forcing it in--but there's still alot of resistance.

I'm guessing the old tranny fluid has got to go then.

My car will go into 1st at a slow rolling very easily. I noticed an improvement after going to the redline mt90. A even more noticable improvement going into reverse. I hit reverse every single time on the first try. Feels nice but I bet the warmer weather helps too.
