Auto to manual swap?

2811 Views 17 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  TUNED200
I am looking at several 240's most are 98's and they are all auto's. I like one 98, its so clean. is it worth getting and later doing an auto to manual swap when I do a sr swap? How difficult is it?

do it, the swap is very easy. 98s are rare, go ahead and get it and do the swap with the SR
What would i need besides petals and the shifter? Any wiring to make the reverse lights work?

I did a auto to manual swap back in high school on my 1988 Sentra. Put a 4 speed in. Couldnt figure out how to make the reverse lights work.
you need the harness thats on the tranny. itll all plug in. you need to transmission, all 3 pedals, master cyliner, slave cylinder, soft line, hard line, and a hole saw to put it in.

Are these parts the same on a s13 and s14?
pretty sure yes, but dont rely on that. find someone whos done it, and ask if they used s13 parts, or vice versa.
Can anyone confirm this info?
From my research you can use the stock brake pedal and cut it down to size. That means you just need the clutch pedal more then likely. Everything else posted match's what I have seen for the s13. It can't be that different.

For the most part... I'm pretty sure you can't use a tranny from a SOHC KA on a DOHC.
yeah, the gas pedal is the same, but the auto one has a kick-down button. mechanically theyre exactly the same, but you might want to eliminate a useless button, and some weight (buttom, bracket, wiring)
I dont plan on using a ka tranny. I was thinking of using the sr 5 or 6 speed tranny when I do the swap.

Will this work out?
all KA, SR, CA trannys are exactly the same, at least in S14 and S13. the only differences are the bellhousings. and yes SOHC and DOHC trannys are EXACTLY the same. i currently have a 90 tranny on a 91 motor. so you need any transmission, and a SR bellhousing. or you can have fun trying to find a S15 tranny for a decnt price.
As you can tell, I know little about the rwd sr swap. Know anywhere I can find some good solid info on this?

just search, and read a lot. theres a lot of info out there, read as mch as you can.
I would get a front clip if I were you, but they are hard to come by and are often expensive to get a nice one. The advantage though is that you will have all (or most) of the auto-to-manual swap stuff in addition to the motor, tranny, etc. This will also allow you to see how things are set up on clip, as an informal means of guiding your installation of the aforementioned things in to your 98.

All I have to say is: stupid Nissan North America for making so many 240's in automatic! I had a helluva time finding a S13 in manual.
Thanks. I have my eye on a 95 SE 5 speed as well, and may make the guy an offer on it. I dont know if I want to go through all of the trouble of finding all of those parts.
you lookin at buying ben's s14? I think he's pretty eager to get rid of it. I'm sure you could get a hella deal on it.
I might,
