Hello everyone.

I have a black 1995 200SX SE-R, 127,_ _ _ miles runs well, fresh tune up, in good shape throughout.

Just filled up my gas tank and the average was 20 miles per gallon I had a 1988 Corolla GT-S that got 25 MPG and I also have a 1994 Escort GT that gets 23 MPG. I drive reasonablly. So why the poor milage with the SE-R?

Whats your gas milage?

Ken

is your EGR working properly? are you throwing an CEL's? when last have you cleaned your throttle body? You may want to check the voltage running across your MAF it may need re-grounded. If you search on this board and on www.se-r.net you will find answers and how-to's on getting back your gas mileage

actually i have a 1997 200sx se-r with 127,000 miles on it. i'm throwing a few CEL's, the first one is on my EGR valve solenoid, the 2nd one is for my front oxygen sensor heater, and the 3rd is for my entire rear oxygen sensor. I have an intake, HS 5th gen header, and S4 cams, its hard NOT to get on it all the time, but my gas mileage is actually pretty bad, like yours, i used to get about 320 miles out of a tank of 93, now i get maybe 250. i have cleaned my throttle body, it helped a bit, i've done my tune up, new BKR6E plugs, oem wires, cap & rotor. I have to tackle o2 sensors now, i'm going to buy an oem rear and a wideband front o2 sensor so i can run an A/F ratio gauge

I'm running a little rich with my '97 SE-R with approx. 60,xxx miles on it and a T25 setup with 370's, etc. etc. etc. and I am getting around 26-28 without mashing on it too much and a little below that when I am feeling saucy! :D

Hello IXLR8se-r,

Check Engine Light. Same as MIL.

I get about 320 miles to a tank, right around 30 mpg consistantly. I drive mostly city, and I'm quite saucy, usually.

I cleaned my throttle body on my 1992 SE-R about a year ago @ 190,000 miles, it imporved my city gas mileage from 22-24 mpg. Last week it didn't pass smog so I cleaned the whole EGR system and it was all clogged up... used a whole can of throttle body cleaner.. I haven't fill the gas yet but will post a follow up on my mileage.
p.s. gas around here (Southern CA) is about $2.25 for 87 octane, Imagine having a SUV! :(

Have you gotten your alignment checked recently? The last time I had an alignment checked the guys had major difficulty trying to aligning it. It was so far off the scale that the laser/computer was confused.. the guys were saying they had never seen a car so far off... that's why I was averaging 23 MPG, I was wondering why it was so low. And yeah I was also getting about the same mileage in the city (keeping it reved at about 4-6k all the time) as I was on the freeway (70-80mph).
The alignment improved the freeway mileage by about 15%.
The next thing that helped the gas mileage was to clean my throttle body. That improved the average by another 10%.
Now gas here is $2.29 for 87 octane. So it's nice to save 15% on my gas bill. It doesn't sound much, but I drive 15,000 miles a year so I should save almost $200 a year, just enough to pay for my tires... :D

All four tires are wearing evenly. So the alignment would seem to be OK, right?

I was getting about 9,000 miles out of my 180 treadwear tires. I guess the bad alignment didn't have time to wear the tires out uneven because I drove very hard.
Now after the alignment I'm getting about 30% more life out of my tires
If you use expensive tires, spending a little $ on an alignment is worth it.

Hello bee2011,

You said in a earlier post that you cleaned your throttle body.

Can you give me steps how to do this?

Much appreciated,
