Considering a car for autocross/lapping days, which SR20 powered car would be best overall handling both stock and with similar suspension mods? End result being best lap times with similar straight line speed? I have an NX right now but I've heard the classic is lighter, and I've heard the G20 is an awesome handling car. Any comments?

That would be the P10 G20. Only problem is the weight of the car. Reduce the weight and you will have the best handling car among sr20s

I have a 5-speed P10 G20 ('93.5), and it definitely handles like a dream. I just wish it was lighter.

Well I own an NX2000, SE-R Sentra and 200SX SE-R and the NX is the heaviest of the bunch. Tested on Morosos car scale. The Nissan manuel also confirms this fact also. As far as handling the NX is my choice but I would like to say that if it is not the best handling car after mods it would be the G20. i have done up a few G20 and they handle as good as a fixed up NX. I think the G20 advantage would be a wider track and also a longer wheel base. Remeber WIDER IS BETTER.

Your kidding right? The NX is the portly cousin of the Classic SE-R.
I agree with Naji, the P10 is probably the best handling SR

If you think about it, the NX has a lot more glass than the other cars because of the hatch and T-tops. Maybe a solid roof NX would weigh a little less?

How about the newer G20? What are its handling characteristics compared to the others?

Oh no. Not another Holy-War subject.

I think the NX handles the best, stock for stock. Once you do equal suspension mods to a B13 SE-R or even a B14 they will probably even out.

Do not forget, the NX was voted top 10 handling cars, IIRC Car & Driver but it may have been Road & Track. I am not sure about the G20's as I have never driven or ridden in one. Probably pretty close though.

All I know is my B14 handled alot better stock than my B13. But that was a '91 with probably worn suspension.

I've found the opposite to be true. My friends stock 93 feels a lot tighter than my 97. It does have the stock 14's on it and I haven't pushed the car very hard, but it seems to handle better than my 97 which has a fsm and rsb.

Yeah, thats what most other people say. But my 98 handled much much better than my 91,but again the 91 was 10 years old when I sold it so you can probably see why.

Right now with F&R sTBs, AGX's & Eibach springs and ES mounts my car will pretty much outhandle any car around here, except at Auto-x's or one thats has a shitload of money dropped into the suspension.

Oh my gosh this is so easy. What sr20de does Car & Driver like most and still reference today? The CLASSIC SENTRA. The original! Everything after it was a compromise. I love my barebones skinny classic.

If you guys go to se-r.net they list they have the classic weighing in at around 2500 lbs while the NX2000 weighs in at 2461...how do u figure the nx weighs a couple hundred pounds more?? take it up with se-r.net then cuz as far as im concerned they have the correct numbers. And the other dude wasnt saying it was as light as the crx, he was comparing it to a regular civc hatchback cx of just a few years back which tipped the scales at around 2300 pounds or so. And just for the record, the Nx2K is an amzing handling car, i have a 2nd gen rx-7 and i can take the turns better in my nx with the limited slip then i can with my rex. Thats something to chew on.

That 2461lbs was an estimated curb weight given by Nissan. Even one of the Sentra SE-R's was listed at that same weight (my '92 Sentra brochure lists the SE-R at 2414lbs). Trust me... The NX2000 is a pig; nothing compared to the G20, but considering its size, the NX is a bit on the heavy side.

Wonder how much my heavy ass 2002 G20 must weigh? I think it should handle better than my honda's but so far i am not to proudy of my power output. I am thinking the DET but the VE model looks very tempting, for that sake so does the VET model.

14.43! That's awesome. What about trap speed though? You gotta at least give me that! Well, my car is gutted, no a/c, no abs, hardtop, no airbags, power everything else...2295lbs 1/4 tank of gas without driver.

But my main concern at this time is weight and oeverall handling for autocross and Solo 1, and if there is a concensus that I'd be more competetive in another SR20 powered car, I may start shopping!
