Did they make a SR20DE with a black valve cover? I was talking to a guy at an engine dealer and he asked if I had a silver or black valve cover. I didn't even know they made a black one. What years did this black cover come on?

Well the new silvias have black valve covers. Well the SR20VE has a black valve cover. All USDM cars had either a silver(unfinished) or yellowish(gold) valve cover. 95+(maybe 94) got the silver valve cover with the classics getting yellow. Then in 91, 92 they usualy had black paint in the spark plug galley way, where as my 93 is just yellow all over execpt the lettering is unfinished

No, I don't want a black valve cover, I am getting a new engine, and when I was talking to the dealer he wanted to know whether my old one had a silver or black valve cover. Like he said the cams were different. I have no Idea, I was just wondering what the diference is?

Yeah, the newer ka24de engines(240sx) have a black valve cover if i remember correctly. the only black was in the spark plug wells in some classics.

I don't know, this guy seemed to think that either one could be in my 95, 200SX SE-R. I just hope that he sends me the right thing. It seems to be a reputable company, I would think that he would know what he is talking about. It was a Japanese importer by the name of JEMCO or Japan Direct.I got their name from SE-R.net Has anyone ever heard anything about this company?

In England the P11 GT's (150 BHP) have a black valve cover. The rest of the 2 litre cars have a silver cover (130 BHP) and the difference, I believe, is indeed camshafts.

Hi Ang

I think we could have our own UK corner here !! Anymore UK people out there ?

Gazmo1

P.S. Is the management E.C.U. different ? because they have different part numbers. (I think)

I think that we are the UK representation on this board Gazmo! We are somewhat outnumbered by the American boys though...

I know that the ECU for the GT has different mappings etc than the one for the rest of the 2.0i Primera's. The two are pin compatible though, so it is esentially the same ECU just with different "code" programmed into it.

As I said, to the best of my knowledge, all the differences between the GT variant of the engine and the run of the mill version are listed on the page I provided a link to in my last post. I'll list them here anyway though:

  • Higher power output - [email protected] vs [email protected]
  • Increased torque - 134lb/[email protected] vs 125lb/[email protected]
  • Different exhaust header
  • Different intake cam - lobes are 0.5mm larger on SR20DE
  • Remapped ECU
  • Higher velocity oil pump
  • Total coolant capacity increased from 6 litres to 6.4 litres
  • Fitted with an water cooled oil cooler system
  • Modified piston rings

PS. Did you get my reply to your email?
