i have a 5spd sr20 tranny..but i dunno if it has lsd or not. is there a way to tell..its is the first 5spd tranny ive ever seen for sr powered cars.(ga-sr swap)

that tranny was attached to a jdm N/A sr20 out of a primera im guessing. just wanted to know if i would be able to tell?

Heres what you do. Jack the car up so both front wheels are off the ground and go turn one of the wheels. If you turn it right, and the other wheel spins the same way, then u dont have LSD, if it turns the opposite way, then U do have LSD. This is also how you tell if your LSD is working properly or not. Hope this helps!

i thought it was the other way around? if you turn it forward and the other goes forward, its lsd. thats what my lsd did.

maxpower, is the swap in? i thought primera/g20 axels were larger, requiring the use of a b13/b14 transmission, usless you were able to mix-n-match the axles to work....anyone else know about this..
Maybe you're right, I may have it backwards. I was just remembering what I was told, knowing me I was wrong :p Anyone know which one is which?

i, too, have heard both ways. people ask it on the bmw forums allll the time. im just remembering what mine did when i got it. i could be remembering wrong.
I'm pretty sure thats right. If there is no load on the trans, when its up in the air, the LSD will have one wheel spinning the opposite direction. One of my cars has an open diff so when I turn one wheel and have someone hold the other, there is not much resistance. I think if you did this with the LSD, you'd feel resistance.
I had a BMW 325iX (all wheel drive) and it had lsd on each axel and the wheels spun in opposite directions. (and then and then and then)
Here is an easier thing to do. If the tranny code ends in a V, you have lsd. If it ends in an A, its an open diff.
what was that talk about primera axles? well..im gonna get new ones from an se-r, cause they are cut. as far as i know my plan is sure proof....but if you doubt me due help cause this is gonna be my first experience putting an sr in a car...i can take em out all day..but this might get messy now!
hmm.. My non-lsd spins opposite directions when I rotate one wheel in the air. I just installed the phantom grip. I didn't try rotating it in the air though but from playing with the differential, I'm pretty sure it both wheels will now spin the same way
If you have an OPEN dif, the wheels do different directions... a properly working LSD will go the same direction
He probably can't tell if it's an RS5F32V (LSD) or whatever transmission, because his car didn't come with an SR so he cant just look at the vin plate.

AFAIK, if one wheel spins the other direction, you've got LSD.
lsd the wheels go the same way
this needs to be on the FAQ it comes up alot
If you have LSD, and you spin one wheel when the car is in the air, the other wheel spins in the same direction. If you have open diff, they will spin opposite direction. I have tested it on my phantom grip lsd.
I know this thread is a bit old... BUT I was wondering about this LSD stuff. EVERYONE says different things all the time. Isn't sr20 LSD different because its VLSD, or something like that? Someone told me that it only acts under heavy load, so it would appear to be open diff when its in the air and you turn the wheels since theres no load on it.
yeah, I have two tranny's and when I had them on the car and in the air they both spun opposite directions? But I know I have vlsd because last time I went to the track I came back with rubber from the track all up both sides of my car and I could feel both tires spinning.
hey. i started this thread!!!!! hehe:)

so whats the final answer?
'when the wheels are in the air under no load, spinning one will cause the other to spinn the opposite direction??? meaning you have lsd or vlsd?"
With my HLSD, the wheels spin in opposite direction while in the air
Do a little screech on the street and find out.
