Guys,

I was at my local Nissan dealer picking up an oil filter when I decided to price a new motor for my 91'. $4,000.00 plus! I've priced used motors and they run from $600 to $1200. I was thinking about picking up a cheap used motor and rebuilding it, probably to stock specs but possibly to DET (w/o piston squirters). How much should I be able to do this for? New pistons, bearings, etc. Hopefully I can keep the crank and rods, etc. How much should I be able to this for? How much are the det pistons? (just in case I go nuts.).

Does anyone reputable offer a rebilr Sr20 DE or DET.

My hope is to get an f-max kit, wear out my current motor breaking in the f-max--and then drop in a fresh plator for the f-max.

well..for that, maybe you could head on over to club si and ask, but for your motor, I couldnt tell you that. Myself I am buying a low mileage Primera motor to swap into my G20.

Well Bud, sorry to tell you, but that kind of response won't get you anything here. If you want rice go somewhere else, but don't get pissed 'cause no one answered a question that could have been answered by simply looking in the SE-R list Archives (did I just say that???
). Now, the other reason no one answered your question is because hardly anyone does this. Personally, there've been 5 guys here in AZ who have popped their engines and rather than pricing new parts, and spending the time rebuilding something, just buy either a JDM Primera engine or a DET. And personally, I'd do the same. When you can get a Primera engine for $250 and a DET for $1200, what's the point in rebuilding? Now, if you're trying to strengthen the engine by using aftermarket stuff (JE, Crower, ARP, etc.) they yea, I see the point of rebuilding. But even then, I don't think there's many people on this forum that have done that. And when it comes to that, pricing also depends a lot on who your parts supplier is because let's say I can get something (such as pistons and rods) for a grand, but you can't find anyone that will go down from $1500. So our pricing would be totally different. If all you're looking to do is have a beefier engine for the turbo, buy a DET, change out the bearings, and wala! Perfect turbo motor. Or, if you really insist on rebuilding your engine, I have a set of BB DET pistons and rods sitting in my room that I can sell you

OK, you penis...

dont be a dick, just cuz nobody got back to you in a split second....lesson 1 learned

Check the archives on http://www.se-r.net .......lesson 2 learned

Ok, anyways...IF you checked the archives first, you woulda found that you can buy a used SR20 for under $300...which obviuosly, to do what you wanna do, is a good starting point. It gives you a lot extra cash to spend on goodies like cams, 300zx spitons, coatings, injectors, fuel pumps, valve jobs, coatings, headowrk, etc. there, now if you would liek me to add to that, just ask, or check the archives.

NSracer,

Hey! I used the
! No harm meant! But actually, you are wrong. I got a helluva lot more traffic after making my snotty remark
. Also, I've done several searches and nothing really answers my question.

I will probably buy a DET and rebuild it/refurbish it. But now that the SR20 is getting on in years and facing a potential phase-out, this type of question is going to become more prevalent.

RPWSER,

Cool. Well, if you decide to go with stock stuff, I can't really help you there. But, if you decide to go with aftermarket parts, drop me a line and I *might* be able to price some stuff for ya...

Yea, I'm gonna sell 'em. Probably like $250 OBO. I can try to take some pics of 'em if you'd like...

Nope, that's not for sale Alex, but I can think of a couple of other things I wouldn't mind selling

$2500 to 3500 will get you an NA bolt-on jdm-sr20 CAR. and for 5000 to 8000, a turbo or a fully built NA sr20. these jems abound in Classifieds.se-r.net. So, forget rebuilding.

Storm,

That was funny. If I were you I would post it all the time and drive it into the ground--but not you.

Dude look at it this way:
1) SR20 is becoming the bread and butter engine of the sentra family. Like the civic ex only better
2) This means potentially expanding aftermarket I think personally.
3) The QR will probably drop in a B15, maybe even B14, and 13 too who knows. Iv'e yet to look under the hood of a new SE-R to see the engine mounts. The older chassis's lighter. The B15 is like 200 pounds more pork.
...and you may get a used SR20 for nothing, but by the time you build an 11:1 compression fire breathing street monster, (with nos) you'll spend enough for the JDM with turbo.

You guys have convinced me. I now have about $1100 in my DET fund. In a few weeks I'll get it. I really would like to be able to drop it in and go. I like the idea of buying a DET because I can refresh my 80k SR20DE just in case, ahem, something happens to the DET.
