Driving school in Alabama in March

A couple of friends and I always try and do a track weekend every spring to kick off the new year of car fun. The track does have a weekend available in March, the 20 / 21, if we are willing to commit. The cost has gone up a little this year over last, for the 2 days of track time and the instructor, its $195.00. The track insurance and EMT’s went up a little from last year, but it’s still a bargain for the amount of time you get. You will get roughly 3 hours of time on track with an instructor, we usually have a really good group and don’t see why this year would be different. We usually have a couple of road race champions and some world challenge drivers, so they are qualified.

Here is the track in all its glory……..

If you want to sign up, here is the link: http://www.itrca.com/events/talladega/

This is the same track we used for the '03 SERCA Convention. Everyone had a blast.

That would make a great B-day present for me since my B-day is in March!
Sign up then. You will have a blast, I promise. There will be all kind of cars there.
is the cost per car or per person? Meaning could I bring a friend, but drive just my car?

Also, what about helmets and safety equipment? I don't have a helmet.
That's per person. All you really need is a helmet. I have an extra one, but I think its a medium. You might be able to borrow one from Brian, unless he comes.
What kind of speeds is that track capable of? In an SE-R of course
I was only using 3rd gear, and I hit between 85 and 90.
yup... as of right now i am planning on going. Trey sent the email to the ATL Region SCCA list...
hey Eric.. you should've signed up for the ProSolo here next weekend... i am doing it.
I'm gonna try to do this. Gotta start scraping up spare change, and selling plasma :D

I'm not a SCCA member anymore. :( I don't autocross that much anymore. I'm also out of town all next week, and I would be looking for a new home if I were to go to Atlanta right after getting back. :( I really hope you and Sam can make it to the school. You guys will have a lot of fun. After driving it with no cones, I'm sure the autocross events won't be as much fun anymore.

You can always sell your body to science. :)
Eric,
Would you be heading down Friday night or Saturday morning?

A bunch of us are leaving Friday night after work. Why? Are you interested in going? :)
Hey Eric, do you know about the NASA HPDE in early March at the Nashville Superspeedway?

Yeah, I know about it. 2 things turn me off about it.
#1 The cost. Its almost $400 for the event, or $190 for 1 day.
#2 The track. 1st thing is the course itself. Its kind of boring. The other is the bank of the oval. Its very rough when you go from 0deg road to 30deg, or whatever the banking is. I've seen in car video of an event there, and its very rough when you go up the bank.

If you can, you should try to make the Talladega event. You will get about double the track time as the convention.
I may go
Ok, complete noob on this stuff, but a couple of questions:
1) do you get to drive YOUR car, or just one of the track cars? I don't have a cage or anything, but I'd sure love to get to drive the NX if I can get it turobo'd by then.
2) one car on the track at a time, or is this like a full roadrace?
3) I'm not a member of anything, but I have a helmet (full face motorcycle, but I'm sure it will work?) is that OK.

Basically, what are the requirement/rules of this?
I made it to the picnic at the convention, but missed the track thing because of work - I wana really do this if you guys are going MITCH, ROB, STEVE, GEORGE, RAZ, Honduh white boy with bad suspension, Brian(I think that is Xard's name - most likely I am wrong - I never pay attention).

1)You drive your car on the track
2)There are 10 cars on the track at once, but its not a race. You can only pass in 2 places, and you have to be pointed by to do it.
3)The motorcycle helmet will work, as lons as its a Snell 95 I think.

If your car can pass a Solo2 inspection, you will be okay.
