Hey guys..just talked to my Sales person from Stillen and Im looking at getting a ECU..I asked if it was a JWT ECU and he said no..told me that it was a Stillen ECU but their ECU's are programed by the same people that do JWT. ( which didn't really make sense to me..wouldn't that make it a JWT? )The thing is after getting a price from him, I called JWT directly and they wanted almost $100 more. Also asked him about the Stillen ECU and he said that they make the ECU's that Stillen sells. Told him they're price and said that they couldn't undercut their dealers so I should buy it from...but then he seemed kinda concerned about that price and asked for the guys name I talked to at Stillen. The guy from Stillen said nothing about a Core..So I was thinking don't they need your stock ECU? Cause if I can get my JWT ECU for the price I was quoted and keep my stock ECU..That would be pretty dope..By the way I was gonna drive down to Stillen and pick up my ECU. So no shipping or downtime with my car involved. Does Stillen carry any other ECU's for our car..I wouldn't wanna get stuck with a sorry cheap ECU. Or do they only carry the JWT..Price after tax was 537. Oh yeah and if anyone know of a better deal..please let me know! Thanks Sorry so long guys!

Yeah I was checking them to see if it would be cheaper to go direct..but like I said they wanted 100 more..plus the core..so Im guessing that the Stillen is gonna be a good deal. Anybody else buy their ECU from Stillen and not have to give their stock ECU up? and how much did you pay?

Jim, I know you are going form what everybody on the mailing list says(especially Geo, he hates stillen for some odd reason), but ive got problems with that. Just because Stillen does not like to involve themselves with giveaways and sponsorships and such at stuff like SERCA events, does not mean they are such a horrible company. Because they make money off people, does not obligate them to take part in things like that. And dont bitch about their prices either. I have heard a bunch of people say their prices on everything are outrageos, which is not true. They give a 30% discount to list members, which is a great deal. If you call them with a problem, they love to help. I have done it a couple times. Their customer relations people are great. I am also a Stillen dealer, and have never had any problems with anything or anybody at Stillen. They get stuff such as the forementioned ECU's and stuff liek cams out to you in less than 1 week also. IIRC it took Jordan whites cams bout 3 weeks to come from JWT. Half the people sayin stuff abotu Stillen have probably never even dealt with them.

I have ordered things from Stillen in the past, but now that I have seen the light, I won't go back. The $tillen ECU is the same thing as the JWT ECU, but with the $tillen tax. Same thing as their intakes, they are really JWT POP chargers. if you want to order your ECU from $tillen, go ahead. I ordered mine from APEX and paid $500. It took me a week and a half to get it, but I was willing to wait, and I also live on the other side of the country. Jim is a know and respected person on the mailing list, and he doesn't bullshit people. I do think $tillen amkes any of their parts, they just re sell stuff with their name on it and jack the prices up. Good luck.

I have one thing to say:

**** STILLEN!!!!

If anyone really wants to know my beef with them do a archive search for the SE-R mailing list and search for "I take it all back...Stillen sucks!"

One of the reasons people talk about $tillen is because they were some of the first to offer any mods for Nissans. They used to be about the only place to get stuff. And people still look highly on the $tillen name for some reason. In the last 2 or 3 years they have went down the hole. They slowly expanded out of just the truck and Nissan area to other cars. Their prices never really changed, just that with more and better products out there for WAY cheaper its pointless to deal with them. They jack up the price just because it has a fancy name on it. Now that you can get JWT stuff easily though mail order or store front places, $tillen is an unnecessary middle man that likes to jack the prices. I think one of the only products they have that is pretty much all theirs is their exhaust. Which sucks ass, it rusts though too quickly. Wait I think their custom body work is theirs but they still like to charge an arm and a leg. A guy back home had their front end on his 99 maxima, it cracked for no reason, he was a $tillen dealer too. But he called them wanting a replacement under the lifetime warenty of the urthane bumpers, they gave him a hell of a time. Dont know if they ever replaced it, but the car got stollen so never heard the end of it.

some of the stillen stuff is not that bad. I have the header and lower control arm brace and am happy with them. their exhaust systems suck though. I would not piss on one if it was on fire on my car to save it.

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's why we call 'em $tealin'!

Don't belive the hype. At least they told you the truth. The Stillen ECU's are programmed by Clark Steppler. Clark also *does* program all of JWT's ECU's.

Clark also happens to co-own JWT.

So, you can either put up with shitty customer service and pay a little extra to buy your JWT ECU from $Stealin', or you can pay a little less, get better service, and buy your JWT ECU from JWT.

Just in case you were curious!

Stillen SUCKS!!!

I will tell you all my favorite Stillen story. This will take me a while to type, and it's late, so I don't have a lot of time.

But, it's a good one, so I think I'll break down and try and tell it right.

This story is not my own. It comes from Tom Paule.

Now, as some of you who know me can attest, I am an Old ****. Tom is an even Older ****. So, some of you young guys may not remember all of this.....

But, way way way back, back when there wasn't much (if any) aftermarket support for the SE-R, there was Stillen. We still called them Stillen back then, because it was so long ago that we didn't know that their name was actually $tealin.

Anyhoo, back in the day, Stillen had a catelog listing all their parts for the SE-R. They also listed the HP increase that one could "Typically" (which, apparantly, means "never") expect to gain from each of these parts. For their intake (which is the same as the JWT POP charger), they listed a gain of 8 hp (!!). For their exhaust (which, incidently, is a piece of **** that rusted out after exactly *1* Michigan winter), they claimed 14 hp. They also claimed, in their catelog, that the intake plus exhaust yeilded *22 horsepower*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, a certain monkey named Tom Paule read this catelog with great interest. Tom called Stillen, credit card in hand, and bought the magic 22 hp intake and exhaust combo (setting him back about $500, IIRC).

Mr. Paule installed the parts, and, due to their increased noise level, noticed a "dramtic" increase in his cars performance.

One day, a guy showed up at his place of employment with a brand new bone stock SE-R. Mr Paule, cocky as hell with his 22 extra hp, told the guy "yeah, I've got an intake and an exhaust that gave me 22 extra hp, so *MY* SE-R is *REALLY* fast".

Of course, a race commences, which involves Tom getting his ass handed to him in a roll on, standing start, etc. Pretty much, Tom and his 22 extra HP lost every conceivable contest of speed to a bone stock SE-R.

So, he calls up Stillen, and says "WTF???!!! I paid you guys $500, and supposedly got 22 extra hp. My friend with a bone stock car kicked my ass *BAD*".

The sales guy at Stillen, without missing a beat, exclaims "Oh, yeah, now that you have all that extra power, your clutch is slipping. You need our clutch in order to get all that extra power to the ground".

So, the moral of the story, for all you kids who have played so much Mortal Combat that you have the attention span of a fruit fly, is that Stillen has been making money off the SE-R community by hook and by crook for,.... well, pretty much for as long as there has been an SE-R.

Let these assholes flounder. They deserve the HonDuh business that they've been trying to attract.

Rob

Hehe, Tom (who was nice enough to allow me to call him at work when I was a newbie [hey wait, I still am] over a year ago, regarding noisy header problems) told me that exact story... he says he got walked in every gear, hehe. Funny story.
