I need to buy some connecting rod and main bearings and piston rings for a good price anybody know where and how much I am looking to spend?
So far I just replaced my rear main seal a boy if anybody is ever going to do that it is alot more than just taking your rear main retainer off.
I figured that since I only had this car for just a couple of months that I should take the connecting rod cap off and see what the bearings look like. I took number 4 off and it showed a small amount of uneven wear so I looked at the top and the bearing was scaffed (looked like someone put a blow torch to it and sanded some of the black smoke off). My brother told me that it would be a good idea to change them and while I am at it have the main bearings done. So I am like might as well take the pistons out(head is at dpr getting some meat taken off hahaha) and put some new piston rings on. If I do all of this will I pretty much have a new engine? the intake manifold is getting cleaned up a bit also. Sorry for the long post just thought that I should let you know what all I am doing so you can answer my questions a little better. Thanks

are you gonna bore the block? I think you have to if you're gonna put new piston rings in.mine was bored like .010 over then 10:1 pistons were addedyou're lucky you lve in ca. ot to far from JW. send the ecu out if possible to them for programming for the upgrades and you'll have a crazy smooth running and strong engine. next time I'll just get a j spec and put my heads and manifold etc. in for much cheaper. good luck and fill us in on the progress.

Boring the block is not required unless 1)new oversize pistons are to be installed 2) cylinder's seriously out of round (out of spec.) 3) taper out of spec. 4) cylinder walls scratched. If you're re-using your pistons and are just going to install new rings, I would just hone it to help the rings seat properly. As far as bearings... your closest friendly Nissan Parts. Dept. should be able to help you out. If you need info on how to size your bearings, let me know; I have a nice picture (sent to me by Courtesy Nissan) that shows you how to size them.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to keep the bottom end pretty much stock cause I am not for certain if I will later on buy a turbokit from f-max or just drop in a gti-r. so I am not going to put oversized pistons in yet. So does anybody know of a good place that sells the rod and main bearing and also the piston rings for a cheaper price than what the stealership wants.

I found a place that sells the
rod bearings 37.87 (clevite)
main bearings 48.65 (clevite)
piston ring set 100.00 (hastings)
They said that I am going to need thrust washers is that true? it is only going to cost 8.00 dollars more. So do I pretty much have a new bottom end engine if I change all this stuff? Thanks

Thrust washers? Thrust bearings sounds better. Just make sure you get the right sized stuff. Many places don't know too much about bearing sizing on DEs that's why I went straight to Nissan.
