Hey

Hoping for some ideas on what to do with my exhaust... it finally sprung the hole that was on the way and is loud as crap. Unfortunately, the P/O chose to weld the ex-catalytic converter flanges together so there is no place to put one now without custom exhaust work. All I wanted for now was to patch that damn loud hole or replace a section of pipe but obviously no shop will do work on it without forcing me to buy and pay for a custom cat install.

SO, because of the fact that I have no welder or any real access to an under the table hack job, I am forced to spend either 4 - 500$ to get a shitty OEM type replacement made at the exhaust shop, or find another solution.

I realized for that price I can get an entire aftermarket exhaust system (manifold down) that would be better than shop quality and solve the cat problem. I even glanced at one on ebay for 400, so I know they are out there.

Anyone have any ideas/opinions of what I should do or know any place where I could pick up either a manifold back or entire system for less than 4 - 500 $ ? ?

Appreciate it

-Dan

Go to Summit and order your muffler/cat/resonator. IMO order 2.5". Get an SSAC off eBay. Have the local shop put it all together. $500 would be a bit tight but not impossible.

Ok,

Changing my approach, I am going to try to compile a list of almost all the headers/exhaust systems available for the B13 SE-R for comparison, both expensive and cheap, so if you have any, list them in this thread because I might not find them otherwise. :biggthump

This is because there are a lot of possible combos and this is really the only good way to choose one.

You can just get some muffler cement/tape from Autozone or Napa and save yourself a whole bunch of $$$
Good point, I didn't think of that :eek2: , I should still replace the system, but this will buy me some time and save me a lot of headches..

I have heard the SSAC has cheap quality welding that breaks easily?

Hotshot is good, if it is still around when I am ready to buy I will check it out, but I need to plan out what is going on first. The problem is I can't really re use any of my old exhaust at this point, so I will have to buy all new stuff (or used).

Almost done with this list of everything I can find too, and it seems pretty good so far.

*If you read the post before, disregard my downpipe comment, didn't see that these come with one

Here is the list of everything I have found.. I included both cheaper and expensive products but left out the very cheap ebay ones since I don't trust them and they mostly appear to be brandless. Anyways, please let me know what I am missing, because I am an exhaust company noob and found these mostly on Google.

or...if your trying to just save money and dont want to do the cement thing have a decent muffler shop cut the flanges off on both ends and use a straight pipe to connect the cat and pipe...just an idea...

Still need a cat and I'm afraid the shops wont be too keen on installing one I bring in (HI Flow or something cheaper than the OEM) because of the legal issues. They wanted me to pay 300 or so just to install a cat!! Not counting the pipe w/ hole that needs replacement!! :(

just my 2 cents don't waste your money on the ebay one you showed earlier, it sounds like you have strayed from that anyways. Not from experience, but that muffler looks ready to sound like a tin can. keep checking, save your money, buy name brand, or you'll end up in the same position a year or so from now.

Does anyone know if the SSAC is good quality (as in not going to break in a year)? A friend told me he didn't think it was.
