hey anyone here had any experience with the garrett variable vane turbo that came on dodge daytona 2.2l?

they come up on ebay from time to time, it looks like a neat unit, but i wonder how you would control the variable vanes without the factory dodge system, ie to put it on a sr20.

According to Maximum Boost by Corky Bell, the answer is no. Something needs to control the vanes. The Aerocharger uses some kind of vacuum unit. Find out how they are controlled by Dodge and get that part if possible.

I wouldn't really want this VNT turbo because all of the problems Miata guys have had with Corky Bell's kits. They're widely considered junk, and most people have moved away from them.

The one Corky Bell sold was having serious problems. Since then, they have been fixed-allegedly. The one he is asking about isn't the same unit as that one (I think). The one in the dodge was made by Garrett. They even made one for a Nissan diesel.
