I going to Irwindale Raceway this Sunday the 22nd to an Autocross Practice/School.
The instructors drive stock Ford Escorts to set a standard for the BMW's to beat and I guess not many do. But Me and My SE-R plan on it. If anyone in the LA area wants to autocross but have never done it before this is a good deal. Autocross schools often cost upwards of $200 and you can attend this one for $60.

I think I did OK here's my report:

The SE-R earned the respect of many a BMW driver at the LA BMW club autocross this last weekend. M3 Roadsters, M3 Roadster Coupes, all the different versions of the M3 and a rare M5, the 328’s, 330’s, 540, and even a 740 had one thing in common, they all turned slower times than I did in my Stock SE-R. In fact there was not a stock BMW there that was faster than my SE-R. I had the 5th best time of 60 cars and only the modified M class cars were faster than I was by 3.5 sec. My 65.352 was a full .5 sec faster than any of the stock BMW's.

In the X class (non-BMW) I placed first, ahead of a Z06, 2 S4 Audi Quattros, an S2000, a Jaguar S type, and a few Honda’s.

Now I understand at these club meetings that many of the drivers are novices, but I heard a few drivers commenting about my times. The first driver said, “Can you believe how quick that Sentra is!” and his buddy replied “Yeah! But it’s an SE-R!!!”.

Al,
That's the sweet thing about autocross, a driver is the difference in who wins and who loses. Even if your car is very fast if you don't drive it properly you just end up going slow faster. If you know what I mean.
As far as LACR, I would like to go but I kind of concerned about burning my clutch out or causing some sort of problem. Autocrossing is much easier on your car than drag racing is. It's just hard on tires. Maybe after I go to the nationals in September I can make it, but I have to watch my pennies right now so I can afford to go to Kansas for the big one, and any extra repairs might make the difference between staying at a motel 6 or a best western! LOL

I hear you Art!! Yea the drag strip does take its toll on parts, I have to replace my clutch before I make it to the track again. Gotta get a hold of some slicks too..
