My spouse was rear-ended the other day in their '98 200SX SE-R. We know the insurance company is going to want to total the car, even though the damage is all cosmetic. For a 20+ year old vehicle, body work usually costs more than the 'replacement value'.

This car means a lot to us, especially my spouse. Ideally we'd like the at fault driver's insurance to cover getting repairs done.

Is this potentially worth more to the community than the write-off cost or the KBB?

If it is, we're hoping we can build some kind of case for justifying the repair cost instead of totaling the car.

Motor was replaced with an imported SR-20 and transmission gears replaced 150k ago. Motor had 50k miles at time of replacement.
