Yup. Bunch of high-up Winstar folks walked into our office with no notice at all and said this office is closed, you're all being let go. No notice whatsoever. They apparently flew in just from wherever to fire us all.

What does this mean to the forums since that ISP I worked at until today? Well the servers are still there (laf.cioe.com included) and will stay running indefinitely. But who knows for sure. The admins for the servers are being let go at the end of May, and by that time the servers there are supposed to be being moved somewhere else and still function. But again who knows.

I am very luckily interviewing for a GREAT position as the computer/network person at a credit union in Kokomo, IN, and it's looking very promising. As planned before, I will be getting a high speed connection to my house and host the forums there, and get www.sr20forums.com registered to my static IP. I will let ya'll know if I get that job or not. If I do, I will move to Kokomo, get DSL with a static IP, and transfer the forums there.

In case they are assholes and try to shut the servers off down the line, I will back them up every week. I backed them up on the 7th and are currently ftping the contents down right now too just in case.

So that's what's up. I am unemployed. I really hope this job will go through. I will let ya'll know.

**** WINSTAR!!!

man, that has happened to me before and it sucks. at least they gave us some time to know when we were gonna have to go looking for new jobs. same thing happened to sr20spy a few weeks ago too. It just sucks that these highdollar, cheap ass bastards have to let alot of people down b/c they are not gonna clear their quarter million dollar a year salary, and let someone who actually works do their job. I hate corporate america, but hey, what can you do?

My condolences, Ben. "Bean counters" and "Company Men" can make cold decisions in the workplace. I hope your interview pans out. If not, let us know - I know of two computer positions a local SR guy posted here in Atlanta. Also keep us up to date with the forum and if you need $$ - we appreciate you starting and maintaining this site.

My condolences, Ben! I think all of us have been through something like this before. In this area, Smith & Wesson, who have been around for like, what, 150 years, have been laying off people on a weekly basis. And look at all the poor Bastards who work in Detroit for Mopar, after their merger with M-B were asked to leave to have their position taken by some guy named Gunther
It could be worse.......

Well I just had a nice filmed conversation with the local TV station, and that story should air tonight.
Also we have had a "problem" customer who claimed to work for Wired magazine that had in the past threatened to write a nasty article about Winstar in Wired. Well I emailed him, told him what was up, and ENCOURAGED him to write the article.
