My 93 NX2000 is a dog off the line. It moves pretty good though once the revs get higher. The car is stock and automatic.

Maybe you got an NX1600?

It's probably the automatic. I know people have different reasons for buying automatics, but I hate automatics, especially when coupled with a 4 cylinder! If you know someone who's got a 5 speed (and you can drive stick) drive theirs and you'll see.

If you think it's slow now, wait until you turn the air on (if you have it)!

My automatic used to be really sluggish off the line. But I tightened the throttle cable, regrounded the MAF and it seems alot better now... I just need to clean my throttle body and I'm guessing that will make her more responsive. Also a thing you might check is the computer on that automatic. They are Electronic, so they can get finnecky and I wonder if a reprogramming is in order. I should call my nissan dealer and ask about it.

your sluggishness is definately from the auto tranny you got. That will do it every time. A 5spd is utilizing an extra gear which in turn gives you more power in each gear throughout the rev band. Plus, a 5spd gives the driver total control over the engine and the cars behavior...sorry to say it bro, but you should have gotten a 5spd, you would be much happier even if you had to learn how to drive it, its well worth it. I used to own an automatic but then i learned how to drive stick and i would never buy an auto again. thats just my opinion.

Hey Hey! Lets not make the poor guy feel bad. I didn't have a choice of stick when I bought my car, cuz it was the only one available. There are things you can do to make her more responsive. I read something about setting the transmission to kick in at a higher rpm to give it better times. Well all I have to say is, I'd rather have my auto NX2000 than a stick escort, or civic, anyday. I have an 85 MR2 thats stick and its fun as hell but if I had to choose only one I'd take the auto NX. So don't feel bad Keith, you still have a great car there!

I can drive stick just fine. It's just that the car was bought as the wife's car and she doesn't want a stick car. Will advancing the timing give it a little more get up and go at low RPM? Once the motor gets revving it's not too bad.

First thing I would do is check the timing. My timing was really low making it almost feel like the car was goign to die off the line. If you dont mind buying more expensive gas you could bump up the timing to about 17 or so that would really help it. Give it a tune up and that should help a ton. tighten the throttle cable also...

Like it was said some of us didnt have a choice. For crying out loud what the hell is a se-r, i had no clue what it was. How was I to know it was something different that my friends XE that I really liked. It was that car that conviced me that you could get a lot of car for little money. He got his XE with air, auto, cd, think cruise....it was nice and it was around 4000. I was wanting a maxima but couldnt afford one so I saw this red sentra. It was cheap and it was loaded. And its not like a se-r is really all that much anyway....the way some people put them up on pedalstals and all. So what we drive auto's...they get the job done. And still pretty damn quick. i cant get off the line stock as quick as a 5 speed, but while your shifting im making up ground....since you are shifting into 3rd and I probay will just be going into 2nd. And not to mention curising the highway at 500 rpm's less.

and people wonder why this isnt a friendly board .... all the in bashing that goes on.

I had a '91 NX2000 stick for 10 years, which I totaled a couple of months ago. As much as I loved it, I chose to get a '92 NX 2000 auto as a replacement. I drive in miserable city traffic most of the time and all the shifting is a pain in the ***. It's not nearly as much fun but unfortunately, I don't get to do much fun driving anymore. My mechanic says we can do a lot to improve it but it's really not that bad, especially considering that it is a 4 cyl..

What in-bashing are u referring to exactly?? all that I had stated was that I totally preferred the nx2000 and any car for that matter in manual format as opposed to auto. To each his own, and if it were me, i would have waited for another nx2000 to come along. But, it was for his wife originally so its totally understandable. Calm yourself down, nobody is bashing anyone here. I actually take pride in the fact that this forum isnt like all the rest of the forums with constant competion and arguing going on.
