It finally happened to me

Sup Guys.... it has finally happened to me. Yup, I busted 3rd gear.
I've been turbocharged for 2years and 2months plus I've owned the car new since January of 1999. I've must have run down the track about 60times and about 10 was turboed. There was a WS6 on my ass so I shifted to second gear and floored it. Shifted to third... about a second later BING, clack clack clack clack clack clack. Oh well... I guess I can't really complain because I lasted this long. I thought I would just share the story. BTW... is this a record for a turbocharged car?

I wish I could say I had the power to even break third gear like you did. Instead wheel hop Killed my tranny. Not exactly sure what happened just yet but it was bad. Good luck on the speedy recovery.
what did you guys have done to your tranny? Nothing?

I got my tranny welded by JGY, but I found out if you go buy some of that quiksteel stuff from autozone (buy two tubes) you can fill in the cracks on your tranny to help prevent the case from cracking. That stuff sets in like 30 mins, and definatly isn't going anywhere.

Give it a shot on your next trannys, for $5 you really can't go wrong, beats shippign a tranny, waiting a month to get it welded, and then paying to get it ship'd back.
Well Danny welcome to the club bro! Sorry about your loss. So I guess its time for a LSD tranny?????? I am on my 5th tranny. I know someday I will need my 6th. Danny when you get a chance give me a cal bro. I need to ask you somthing!

Yeah... my tranny was stock. I will try that though for my next tranny. Thanks for the tip.

Dan
Sorry to hear that, Danny. I'm sure Andreas will hook you up and you'll be back on the road soon.

Still on my stock internals over here, and the turbo has been on for 1 year and 10 months.
Sorry to hear that, I'm running a totally stock tranny too. I'm hoping to hold out long enough for a PAR set. Or just yank the DE-T and try to break it with a VE..............

still on my original tranny. been turbo about the last 30k miles. Seen the drag strip about... 30-40 times since the turbo, an hours worth of time on a small road course, and some auto-x.

I've actually tried to minimize using 3rd on the street. I'll just take 2nd up to 35-40 then shift to 4th.
when you kill third gear is the car still drivable as long as you dont use third? in other words.. if I grenade third at the track can i limp it 50 miles home>?
what pressure plate, clutch disc were you running?

I 2nd this question...
I think you can limp it home but my guess is you'll cause more damage. All those teeth that got sheared off are floating around in the tranny now.... basically shrapnel. So it could cause damage to the other gears.
Danny sorry to here that Bro,but what are you gonna do get it fixed or get another tranny cause, I have another tranny with a good 3rd gear in it.Halla at me

Eek. How do you drive your car!?
Hah. the quicksteel trick was my attempt. It takes more than 30 minutes that is for sure. I started on it the night before, put 3-4 layers in it, letting it go for at least an hour or two between coats. I don't think it was fully cured when we bolted in the tranny, but it was set enough to not squish out. I only used 1 tube BTW.

Well... tomorrow I'm going to drive it about 45miles. It will drive but with the broken pieces is clinging everywhere. Since it's already broken... how much more can I break it ;) ???
