JWT/S3 CAMS..................QUESTIONS!

2917 Views 22 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Storm88000
I would like to know if any G20 or just plain SR20DE owners(NO PUN INTENDED!) have installed the JWT S3cam and what are the noticeable improvements after this install. I purchased a set through STILLEN and have yet to install them, I'm curious to know whether they allow your car to burn more gas. I already use top grade fuel, even before I installed the JWT/ecu. So I would be happy to hear that my fuel consumption would only be mildly effected. I have other mods like the Stillen 4into1 header and air intake. Also the Greddy/Trust exhaust. So far I have been happy with the end results of these modifications, with the exception the vibration I now get from my exhaust, coming from around my windows and dash board.
I hear that the S3 cam is the best of the bolt on mods, granted you have installed some of
the mods mentioned above. I would like to know if there are any negative changes in idle does your car ever have trouble starting or cutting off unexpectedly. Does the increase in HP allow for an increase in wheel hop. Do most people follow Jim Wolf's suggestion, and maintain their timing at 15 degrees. Oh and if you were going to have them installed by someone other than yourself, what would you expect to pay. Like most cities in America the most commomly seen modified Japanese car is the Honda, So yeah I do know some private owners who have installed their owne cams on Hondas or Toyota's, but I have met no one who has made this type of a mod to a Nissan SR20DE. I would trust myself, but I'm the type of person who needs to know that everything has been tweeked correctly so I have no future problems. As you might have guessed I am still paying for my car, so installing cams is not a simple "play around to you get it right" mod for me,these cams cost me $560.00. I owne a 95 Infiniti/automatic, and would appreciate any SE-RIOUS advise regarding this topic....THANX!

Where are you at? I'm sure their is someone near you that could lend a hand putting them in. I did mine myself.. I was scared shitless but I did them.

My GM wasan't effected to much. If their were any negitave effects I would say it was from me led footing it past 5k all the time
The cams are the **** and well worth the $$. I noticed more power from idle and at 5k it was a diffrent world. I could get the tires spinning on good days in 2nd up in the rpm band mmmm well worth it.

I live in Hampton VA, and I get one of two responses " Why are you doing all of this to a G20?" or "Your car has a timing chain, that's different from a Honda or Toyota, you should go to your dealer." I'm telling you the only Nissan I've seen with mods are the 200X,some Sentra's Oh! and I've even seen a G20,but they have only modified the exhaust, rims, or intake. That's it. So I can say I truly rely on the Internet sites like this one for guideance along with Sport Compact Magazine.

ya I didn't mean a shop. Shops are a waist of money. I meant to try the SE-R list. Believe it or not their are tons of helpfull people out their willing to take a drive to work on a SE-R. I would but VA is quite a drive for me. Either that drive to nj next weekend. I have done cams before and ray will be their too(?) he has done them.

Anyone in VA want to put cams in Paradyme's(name?) car??

Mike
Head gaskets????? To change the cams all you need to do is pull the valve cover. You won't get anywhere near the head gasket.
Ok,cool...I can get their from the parkway..but will you be meeting in Mt.Laurel...Oh! and speaking of Jersey. I have a friend who works for Infiniti in Bloomfield NJ, If hour schedules clash I'll try and see If I can get him to Install my cams. What's your experience with performance head gaskets. Are they only used for racing?...My name Nigel

If you are coming and want to change the cams Get a VC seal. I have 3 extra seals for the spark plug area you can have one
I can also bring all the nessecary tool to do the job.

NOOOOOOOO! I was just asking in general, since I've seen them for sale in the Summit/racing catalog. I do know what's involved in installing cams. I just have reservations to doing them myself.
Ok, But like I had mentioned, I do want to have the tensioner replaced and oil lines replaced like the dealer suggested because of the mileage, besides why install new cams at 90+,000 miles and not replace the relative parts. I'd rather have one complete job done and include all things needed than to continuously remove the valve cover and risk the possibility of having to replace the valve cover gasket each time at $40 a pop including seals.
Both Pat G.(slowSER)and George P(gpser96) live in VA, so they could help you. I'm not volunteering them, but just letting you know they live near you.

Mike, what I will do is collect the parts I mentioned..I normally order parts for my car from carparts.com or nissanparts.cc,they sell what I need at discounted prices. The dealer has been nice enough to supply me with stock #'s. Can you remove and reinstall the oil lines? If so, then where good. I will be in Jersey the week of the 18th in DEC/00...E-mail me with a price.
Ok Mike, is it possible for you to pass along my E-mail address to either of these guys and maybe I could hook up with someone and have the cams along with other things mentioned installed...ask them to email me with a price.....THANX!...NIGEL

Mike does not live in NJ. I do. He lives in COnn. but is coming down this W/E.
