Hey, I've been entertaining the thought of opening a Nissan Aftermarket Mod Shop. This past saturday I was invited to a local car gathering in Newport News VA, which I thought was cool. When I got there, it was held in a shopping mall parking lot. There were at least 40 cars on hand nice clean and tricked out, but not a Nissan in the bunch. I parked my G20 and walked around the lot and saw everything from Mitsibishi's to Fords, lots of different classes and no real sh** talking between owners. I can say I felt left out. Yeah, in VA you might see a Nissan or two with mods in passing but that's It. So I'm thinking it would be a good idea to look into the Nissan aftermarket. How does this sound. A salon type shop that mainly caters to NISSAN, with a mod install and Minor repair shop. I think it could be lucrative, considering that most mods for Nissan are either mailorder from the west coast or hard to find. Just think a place where all Nissan drivers could come for exhaust, headers, cams, wheels you name it. Hey folks help me think of a name. I think I'm on to something here. let me know what you guys think?......Nigel 95G20t/auto

I think that would be great. But an all Nissan shop might do that good, it would probably be better to do anything goes, with specials catered to Nissan's. That way you could get the whole scene.

. Just kidding, I think it is a great idea if you have the resources to get it off the ground.

Yeah I would cater to some of the other popular car models like Mitsubishi, Toyota, Suburu, Audi, Oh! and Honda (no pun intended)
I think It's really time for the US car market to stop treating Nissan like a Japanese family car company. I think Honda's satisfied owners helped to create it's aftermarket and Nissan owners have do the same. Keep the feedback coming.

i think that is a great idea, but it may not make much money. there is a reason that most people modify hondas. there are a bizillion different manufacturers with a bizillion different parts. i think if more parts were widely availiable, then more nissans would be modded. or is it if more nissans were modded then manufacturers would make more parts because of the larger market....it is the endless circle of supply vs. demand. there will be no supply if there is no demand, and no demand if there is no supply. most of these manufacturers are happy just catering to honda and maybe mitsubishi or mazda. they are making gobs of money, and don't really see the need to risk this money so that they can cater to the nissan market. in the end, we will always (in america at least) be the last ones to get accepted in this area. (i hear nissan tuning is big in japan). if you look in any copy of sport compact car, you will see countless tuner honduhs. they are all the same basic thing. boring. one out of maybe thirty are away from the normal **** that everyone does...(wow 17"s...wow altezza lights...bigass wing...blah) scc loves the **** out of having articles and pictures of honduhs in thier mag, although their project cars don't show this imbalance. it is swayed towards nissan. 4 nissan projects to one honda project.
don't get me wrong. hondas are VERY well designed vehicles. i have the utmost respect for them. i almost got a honda, but i wanted something different, so in 1998 purchased a mint 93 nx2000, with only 30k on it. (it ain't mint no more)
i, as probably the rest of you have done, soon realized that the quality and overall product satisfaction that a nissan vehicle gives to the owner cannot be matched. by anything. ANYTHING.

i know i'm ranting here, but here is my point: i'm new to this. i am the only person in this town (that i know of) who has a tuner nissan (300zs not included). my first tuner car show was the 2000 nopi nationals in atlanta. i spent the entire time looking for sr20 nissans. i think i found four. four ****ing cars among a gazzilion hondas. there were even tricked out geos there. GEOS?!?! this has given me the motivation to trick out my nx to the limits of my finances, race it. win. buy more sr20s. mod them. etc....

Hey, I understand where your coming from and I ain't hatin on Honda's, but theres got to be a balance somewhere. From what I can see there are lots or enough aftermarket items made for Nissans, but we always fall into the limited stock or special order catagory when trying to purchase mods. Like I said I live in an area where there aren't many modified Nissan's, but their are no shortages of Nissan's being driven. the very common sentra an 200x models are seen as much as Honda civics. It's that every day Nissan driver that I would try to appeal to,guy or girl young or old. Because the cars are out there, it's just not enough aftermarket businesses catering to them. Everything would need to be well thought out, but no Big Deal. Oh and did I say mailorder. You can also generate local interest by creating a racing team, This would also create rrrrRRRevenue! Just think of the businesses that are already doing it Jim Wolf, Stillen, They have got to be making a killing. and this business would be an extension of what already exist.

but look at the broad market that $tillen and jwt appeal to. and when i say supply vs. demand, i mean the ratio of supply of parts to owner's demand. it is a great idea to do this. just think of how crazy the first import compact tuner guy sounded to all of his v8 friends. jim wolf and stillen also have thier own special products and services to offer. since when am i a business major?

anyway, i went on a rant which did not apply to your idea, just the state of things in general.

I was actually thinking about opening an Import Speed shop up here in Western MA. I know MA is a pitifully small state, but for those of you who don't live here, 80% of the population(and stores, etc.)are from Worcester east to Boston. The area I live in is inundated with all kinds of imported performance cars, but there is no speed shops catering to us(only to "american" V-8'S). Yes, there are some speed shops in CT, but they're a good 1 1/2 to 2hours(depending on traffic, it could be closer to 3-4hours)away. As far a the All Nissan All the Time thought is look at Stillen, etc.....They had to branch out to stay competative. Maybe you should just market the store as the "Anti-Honda" store and carry everything BUT Honda and Acura S**T! THAT would make you stand out in the crowd, for sure. Plus, you're at least carrying parts for alot of other manufacturer's, so there will still be good variety.....Just my 2 cents

Turbosentra, there were lots of different groups there at this meet, and people meet there every Saturday on Jefferson Ave, in whats called the Demby section of Newport News, in the COSTCO/Wholesalers parking lot around 9:30/10:00pm. I plan on having RosenAutoSports install my JWT/S3/cams Saturday of this week, If we could agree on a reasonable price for labor. Every Shop I've been to wants to charge the Factory service manual labor cost at $250.00 to $300.00 for six hours labor. Yeah if you allow the timing chain to fall away from the cam sprockets, then you have to realign the chain by pulling apart the entire left side of the engine to do so.Jim Wolf only charges around $100.00 bucks, and Cam installs(done the way Jim Wolf suggest)is only 2hrs in labor cost. I'm hoping they see it this way.

Contrary to popular belief, not all of us here in W.Mass have married their sister, run a farm, etc.
I live in South Hadley, which is right across the river from Beautiful Holyoke-Also known to some as the "Gunfire Capital of Massachusetts" It sounds like the Fourth of July over there every night. Anyway, Holyoke does have some of the most interesting cars I've ever seen(Puerto Ricans are very adept at turning a "beater" into something unique) Where is Lunenburg?
