is yours a sentra or a 200? I know from the years 91-93 they suffer from a problem called fifth gear popout, but it does not sound like that, it also sounds to me like a busted syncro, maybe stripped, and at higher rpms just not catching like they should. if it is an older model, I would seriously consider buying a transmission from someone or somewhere, I have seen them go as low as 300-500 bux, almost double the price as doing it yourself, but you will not have to mess with it at all, and not have to pay someone some major bux to fix it either. sort of 'plug and play' instead of "crap, where did I put that retainer" or "well, I have six bolts and a few clips left over?"

My SE-R is a '94, but the trans(3rd one!!!)is out of a 93.It will go into fifth easily and smoothly, but as soon as I give it throttle it pops out....but it will stay in gear for de-acceleration. any ideas of where to get a used box would be appreciated.
....and the xr is an awsome car. the shop i work at specializes in them(www.modernperformanceinc.com) and the Charger is a 440 -4.originally a 361 boat anchor

ya'know, come to think of it, i think I do rest on the shifter handle while crusing.mabye it was pushing on the syncro just enough to keep it slightly engaged.Anyone ever bend shift rods? mabye an aftermarket short shift would help next go-round?

ya, I have heard that the fifth gear popout stems from people just resting their hand on the shifter while cruising down the hwy. if this is true, I don't know, sound logical, yes :)

To answer your Q Jamie the only people who make trannys for our car is Nissan. You need to find one at a junk yard. It took me about a month to find one with the milage and price I wanted(28k/$500 out of a 96). If you got the $$$$.$$ try Quaff(sp?) I herd they will cu$tom make gears and lsd to fit in our tranny cases.
