lately i've noticed a really thick, dark, layer of grease or oil on the power steering container/jar/whatever... i wiped it off with a cloth and a couple of weeks later it came back again. i inspected for some kinda leakage on the hoses around that area but found none. what the heck is it and where did it come from?

It's the cap on the reservoir itself, and it's a problem with all Classics.

The cap isn't designed perfectly, so power steering fluid leaks out under extremes. After track lapping sessions (the hardest driving I ever do in my car), that entire section of the engine bay is coated with PS fluid.

Adam Kim on the SE-R List found a solution: buy a B14 reservoir and replace the B13 unit. There are instructions in the 'List archives.
