Has anyone else had the clear coat start to oxidize on their 91-92 Nissans? It has happened to both my '91 Sentra and Pickup. I remember there being a lawsuit about this, but I never really looked into it.. Have any of you guys had the same problem?

on my 1992 sentra se-r, "grandma grey" :) the clear coat did start to flake off, and now on my 96 se-r "super black", a.k.a. "super swirl" :) I've got paint chipping off all over, especially the hood and front bumper. According to what some people have said about nissan, when they paint our cars black, they don't use a clearcoat. ???? I think overall nissan doesn't do a good job when it comes to painting our cars, but that's why we have such a great motor under the hood!

The clear coat on my 1992 SE-R started to show damage in '97 and now is in really bad shape. The areas effected are the hood, roof, trunk, spoiler, and c-pillars. The roof is so bad that the grey primer is showing in some places.
The one thing that tells me this was a factory defect and not a question of the elements is that the paint had worn (since back in '94) away from the gutter areas under the hood and trunk. These are places where the hidden for the most part from direct sun light.
I heard about the problems other '92 and earlier Nissan owners had with their paint. I know a few were lucky enough to get their cars repainted by the dealers, thought that was the exception. Most, like myself, were out of luck.
I've endured the ugly "sunburned" appearence of my car for too long and will most likely get it repainted sometime soon.

I have had no problems with my Black 92.
If your car sits out in the sun all the time any paint job will flake and fade!

My red '92 is in great shape. The previous owner kept it under a cover.

I have a red 91' classic and the paint looks great. Of course I bought it from the origanal owner and he actually waxed it. He might have also kept it in a garage. I know some else with a Sentra SE-R and there paint is in such bad condition I dont know if the car used to be black or grey.

Yeah, sure enough my paint was about 4 different shades of red when I bought it!
It was also quite thin in some areas - on the roof for example. After six months I couldn't take it anymore and I had it repainted. My friend who has a 94XE has the same problem. His paint is definitely too thin in some areas and faded. I think Nissan obviously saved some money in this area.
