My stock antannae gets horrible reception. Would getting one of those Jetta style antannaes that go in the back help get better reception? If so, will that look "ricey"?

I might get one since I hate the antenna on my B14 that never goes down. Mines a 1.6, if that makes a difference. I don't know if the antennas on the SE-R's goes down or not. Anyway, I got tired of that ugly thing so when I got my body kit, I had the body shop remove it. Now I have no antenna. For me, its ok since I only listen to cd's anyway. But yea, in my opinion, those little roof antennas look better than the big ugly ones.

Doug, if you get a vw style ant., then might i suggest a zendar. i put one on my old show car (72 super beetle), it looked sweet! the zendar is amplified so you won't lose any reception. you might even pick up a few new stations. they are also adjustable, so you can point the thing straight back if you want. i will admit though, installing one on a beetle was a bit tasking. so putting it on a newer ride might be a big PITA. worst case scenario, a stereo shop could install it for you. here's the product site:

good luck!

I'm not sure how it would look on a classic, but I'm a big fan of the Audi TT style antenna.

Later non-US B13's got the "sprig" antennae (like this Columbian Sentra) on the roof close to the A-pillar, which is some improvement over ours. Still no VW style, though.

Personally, I'd like an antennae wire hoop hidden inside the headliner. No external antennae anywhere.
