I just purchased my JWT/ECU AND S3/CAMS through
STILLEN, I spoke with Jim Wolf and he advised that I would not need to reprogram my ECU which I purchased just one month prior to receiving my cams. I have a question How old is your JWT ECU. Like I have mentioned here on the forum that I was having my cams installed tomorrow and I would hate to think that there is anything else that has to be done to my ECU. I have only heard of reprograming needed for the S4cam. I would definitely say give Jim Wolf a call on this one, Let me know what happens.

Jim Wolf says that you will need Ecu reprograming with S4 Cams and valve spring adjustment. S4's and S3's are not the same One is for street. The S3, And one is for racing. The S4, Riding up and down a boulavard somewhere in America looking for someone to chase to the red light and a possible reckless driving ticket is not racing. Give Jim a call, He answers the phone. No need to debate.
Um, Paradyme. I believe both the S3 and S4 cams are street cams. The S4 cams do not require valve springs. My friend has them on his car and does not have valve springs. The C series cams are the race cams. I believe only the C1 and C2 cams are out now. I think the C3 and definitely the C4 cams will require valve springs. I've been right there when Craig Damashi from Acceleration Pluss in Connecticut, has called Jim Wolf and listened intently to every word.
OK OK, I stand corrected, regarding the race cam. I have heard of the two other cams you mentioned(c1 and c2) and you are indeed correct. The use of cams on stock engines do not require the JWT ECU, meaning your car will operate, and operate poorly especially with S4 cam, which has even greater loping idle. SE-R's have been known to have trouble with S3 cams if there was no JWT ECU installed. Your car will operate poorly in cold weather and will tend to cut off unexpectedly, so I definitely suggest the ECU for use with S4 cams I was told by Jim Wolf that their is no need to have your Ecu reprogramed with S3 cams I'm not sure about the S4cam, but I wouldn't be surprised if you did. The S3cam and the S4 is not the same............OUT!

You don't have to have the ECU reprogrammed for the S4 cams. My friend is running them now. You are correct about running them without the ECU. With proper tuning however it is possible to run them without it. To experience them to the fullest you need the ECU to eliminate the stock rev limiter. The cams are not the same but very similar just as I mentioned before.
