Need alot of help here. What size slicks should be run on a 14" rim? Should a 14" rim be used? Which brand do you all think works best for a turbo sr20?

The car has over 300hp's (close to 350) and will be running 10psi - 15psi of boost.

If you are pushing 300+ hp, you WILL run into traction problems even with these slicks. The MT 20x8x14 Slicks are designed for cars with less than 200 hp. I would suggest investing in a good set of 13" drag wheels. ie: Volk TE-37 Drag Wheels (13x8). Bogarts, Kiezer, or Lenso VPD's. Try to at least get M&H 22x8x13 slicks. If you are still haveing problems with those, then step up to either the MT 24.5x8x13 or M&H 24.5x8.5x13 slicks.

ya, the smaller the rim, the better it will hookup b/c the tire will actually try to roll over itself (low tire pressure) and stick, thats why someone with a 215/50/15 will hookup better than my 205/40/17. even if it weighed the same, just more give in the tire. just have good motor mounts, and watch out on your launches, and summit (I think) has free shipping on all tires.

Does the rim size make a difference? Also how friendly is the 24.5x8x?? slicks on the transmission and on the wallet?

Most drag wheels will be between 13x7.5 - 13x8.5 . You will size slicks according to estimated power. The 22x8x13 M&H slicks have held 350 hp. Anything past 350hp and you should go with the larger 24.5x8x13 MT or 24.5x8.5x13 M&H Slicks. My tranny is cryo treated and welded, I have an ACT 6 puck w/ Xtreme P/PL, and I launch the car @ 6000 rpm's at the track. It has held up fine so far (knock on wood!), but there is always the possibility of grenading the tranny. Remember, the larger the slick, the lower the mph will be. My 118 mph on slicks would be like 121-123 mph range on street tires or with smaller slicks like the 22x8x13's.

Let me get this stright, if I had the same size slicks (24x8) on 14x7 rims and 13x7 rims, which set would do better and why? I know about the slicks compound and sizing but I really want to know if there is any differnce in rim size performance wise.

They don't make a 24.5x8x14 slick that I am aware of. basically, you are compensating rim size with slick size. The larger the slick you go with the smaller diameter of wheel you want to turn. If you are still having problems with traction with 13" wheels and 24.5x8x13 slicks, then you wold have to go toa 15" wheel with 26x10x15 slicks similar to what Lisa Kubo and Ed B. are running. When you are making 600+ hp, it doesn't matter what slicks yo are running because you have the power.

Yep, I was running these the only time I've been to the track with my se-r, I couldn't hook until middle of 2ng gear.

Just remember, you will get better traction with larger slicks, but your 117 mph trap will be reduced to 114-115 mph.

Good runs!!!!
