From what I gather, the stock speakers on the NX2000 are 4x6 in the front and 6 1/2 for the back. My car has a custom mount for 6 1/2 in the front as well, so i have 6 1/2 front and back. But I have noticed that the sound from the rear speakers is terrible opposed to the front speakers. I even tried switching the front and rear speakers... There is no bass whatsoever... I guess the acoustics of where the rear speakers sit is terrible. Has anyone done anything to make the rear speakers sound better?

well i used to have the 6 1/2 in the back too i didnt like them eather there they blerd easly and no bass too, so i just chucked them and put 6 by 9 in the trunk cover behind the seat and replaced the old lid with medite, and the i got alot better sound and bass from the bigger air space in the trunk in sted of the cramped stock speeker place ment on the side of the back seat

Umm...you're replying to a 6 year old thread. :ugh: Turn the music down. It's effecting your ability to read.

You can take out the 4x6 mounts out of the door and fit 6 1/2s in there. The thing is that there isn't much room for a decent size magnet because the magnet will hit the window run.

Kenwood dual mags fit nicely but they are only an inch and 7/8's deep. I think i have half inch spacers as well to make them fit. i have the 6 1/2" components in my doors.

well since this is a bumped old thread "for fun" it answered some of my questions and just realised my poor investment in the stock rear brackets :(

can anyone please provide sample pics of their custom door ones for 6.5 as i am going to attempt this this coming weekend... pretty please anyone?!?!

by the way i searched th poll here ages ago and what fits in the rears... it does depend on brand between 6-6.5inch. using vernier calipers i measure exactly 6inches from hole to hole diagonally though so i don't see how 6.5s fit. what are the inner diameter of some of your speakers?

i don t know all these inch size....but here in germany most guys run a system like i have too....

front 2 way compo 16,5 cm (6.5 inch) with some adapter kits.....you can use the mercedes slk adapter kit or the vauxhaul/opel vectra kit (should be not aviable in the usa)

rear..... 2 way compo 13 cm (5.25 inch) at the standart nx2000 mounting holes beside the seats (don t know if you have them check this http://home.arcor.de/b13teile/boxen.jpg

and finally a good subwoofer (2x4ohm) and 2 amps.......http://home.arcor.de/b13teile/Bild-020.jpg

^^^you know whats funny... i got 5inch Boschmann Audio Lab speakers (German i think) redrilled to the rear brackets like you did... awesome sounding speakers however, see those wires that go from cone to tweeter? both wires on each speaker on mine hit the cone during bass peaks.... sounds worse than distortion!!!

Might as well chime in here.

To answer the first question, part of the reason why there is less bass coming from the rears, compared to the fronts, is due to speaker placement & how sealed it is. The rear speakers simply mount on a steel bracket that is completely open. There is no seperation of the front waves from the back waves, thus, cancellation occurs. The front speakers, although not perfectly sealed, has better seperation of the front & back waves. That is why a subwoofer needs to be in a box of some sort.

To answer the second question, yes you can get pretty decent bass/midbass from a 6 1/2". Granted, it's not going to win you any SPL Drags, but for listening to certain genres of music, it can be sufficient. There are manufacturers of 6 1/2" midbass drivers & even subwoofers. I think most people would be pretty surprised by how much bass a modern day 6 1/2" subwoofer in a properly tuned box & sufficient power can put out.

As for 6 1/2" drivers in the front doors, it's really not that difficult. You definitely will need some MDF & a jig saw. You will need either 1/2" or 3/4" depending on the depth of the speaker you are wanting to mount in there.

For those that might be interested in what other speakers fit in the doors of an NX2000

I installed a pair of Infinity 6022i's in my daughter's 1993 NX2000 yesterday.

I pulled out the factory 4"x6" mount, put in 1" speaker mounting rings and screwed the 6022i's (6.5 inchers) onto the mounting rings. The 6022i's are spec'd at 2.75" deep, so I was a little worried, but they fit - tight - but they fit.

Sound good too!

My 2 cents

I don't usually like to run rears in a small car(i tried them in my crx and my nx and did'nt like the way they sounded in either) as they are usually closer to your ears or have a more direct path and they usually drown out the fronts unless you have them turned way down on your amp. If you have a good set of components up front and they are amped you dont really need rears, i can hear mine great even with the t tops off on the highyway.

I can try and put some pics up of how i have mine mounted when i have some time to take the door panel off, which i will be doing soon because i am going to use some dynamat in the doors.
